Hi Group,
I would just like to raise this point. I know that google have a site submission page, but based on information given to me during a seminar on Search Engine Optimisation, from a company called BigMouthMedia (http://www.bigmouthmedia.com) , YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUBMIT YOUR SITE TO GOOGLE TO BE INCLUDED IN GOOGLE.

The reasons for this are:

The Submit page doesn't actually do anything.
Getting the Google spider to visit your site will get you included WITHOUT submissions to google through the submit a site page.
Being listed in any of the Google feeder search engines will get you listed WITHOUT submitting your site through the Goggle submit a site page.
Have links to other sites that are listed in Google will again get your site listed WITHOUT submitting your site through the Goggle submit a site page.

Remember it takes about 30 days for the Google spider to visit every site so be patient.

Hope this helps.

Does this work for all the search engines because I cant seem to get my page listed in the top 20 of any. Do you have any good tips?

Thanks

hi,
the answer to your first question is no only search engines that use spiders.
I would recomend that you go to ODP - Open Directory Project, now this is one of the biggest feeders to google you are garenteed to get listed. Getting listed here takes about 2 months then you would have to wait at least another 30 days for the goodle spider to find your site.
In the mean time, having good inbound and outbound links to sites that ARE listed in google will eventlay get yourself listed in google.
AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Netscape and ODP are all major feeders for google, being listed in either one of these will get you listed in Google.
Once you get listed you need to work on your keywords to obtain higher rankings. This is done by working on your rating.

Whayhay Ribeyed you know what your on about there.

I always wondered if that blinking submit page did owt!

I stopped using it a while back now in favour of a good ol' text link, it sure done the trick for my clients sites.

Please what else did you learn from BigMouthMedia? Can you share?

All the best

Phil

marshy28 - This will work however it by no means is a replacement for good content on your site to help your rankings and properly written meta tags.

Hi all, I must add that your most important keywords should be in your page title.

Being an Directory MOZilla (DMOZ) Editor myself, from experience I can tell you that there are plenty of people whom apply to the directory that don't get listed because they submit sites for the wrong reasons, like self-promotion.

Personally I would rather submit a site directly to Google rather than wait for a spider.

Constructing a website that is rich is semantics that has robust-structure from a mark-up aspect also helps ranks.

For example using logical ordering headings and applying <abbr> for abbreviations and using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for applying style, and using markup for structural purposes only, etc.
