PeOfEo 05-08-2004, 06:10 PM he prolly said something like, "oh yea, well I am a bigger nerd then you all, I made the sasser worm" at a lan party or something... this is like all great murders, the person will eventually tell someone about it and get caught. Just my bet. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,119372,00.html I saw this story a little while before I saw this thread. Daniel T 05-08-2004, 06:12 PM Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he even turned himself in, as I'm sure someone like him wouln't mind the reputation of the creator of one of the most wide-spread effective viruses in computer history. -Dan AdamGundry 05-09-2004, 02:21 PM Looks like it was the Microsoft reward (http://news.com.com/2100-7349_3-5208762.html?tag=nefd.top) that did it. As an aside, what do you think of Microsoft's plans to ship XP SP2 to everyone, without blocking pirated copies like SP1 does? Adam PeOfEo 05-10-2004, 09:25 PM This same kid was the one who made the netsky worm, they found source code for that on his machine and other stuff. That jerk gave my mom netsky, and through my mom gave me netsky! Grrr! Daniel T 05-10-2004, 11:06 PM Originally posted by PeOfEo This same kid was the one who made the netsky worm Seriously? WOW. I haven't gotten Netsky, but I hear it can be pretty bad. Wow, two major viruses before he's out of school. I'm sure he has a long life filled with senseless hacking and making other people's lives miserable ahead of him :( -Dan Jab 05-13-2004, 09:50 AM Hmm,..i donīt know. Iīm from germany, too. and nerds over here think what he did wuz kool! I head sum people say they wanna take revenge for him and start new viruses, to blackmail him free from the Court! Things like that have also good sites! because of guys like him i started using mozilla and linux...these haxors opened my eyes. Hopefully this poor guy did open sum companyīs,too! NEVERTHELESS: whut he did wuz wrong! Daniel T 05-13-2004, 11:48 AM Originally posted by Jab Hmm,..i donīt know. Iīm from germany, too. and nerds over here think what he did wuz kool! I head sum people say they wanna take revenge for him and start new viruses, to blackmail him free from the Court! Wow, Germany sounds like a charming place. Ben Rogers 05-14-2004, 06:51 PM I feel so bad for the people of Germany.. or their reputations anyways. I can't help that whenever I picture a german, I picture a hax0r with a Hitler moustache shooting someone in the 4s5 or something, and I know it's wrong, but it's the image that I've gotten, even though know it's more pinpointed at hating Nazis, and Nazi supporters (We're studying the Holocaust in Social Studies, can you tell?) Well, anyways, Dan, I bet your happy. That thing f***** your computer up! If I were you, I'd hope that he goes to jail for a good hunk of time, though I doubt he will: some company will probably bail him out and ask him to work for them :p Daniel T 05-14-2004, 07:58 PM Originally posted by omega some company will probably bail him out and ask him to work for them :p Yes, that's what I was thinking too:( Like in The Core, where that ultra-nerd guy is caught with computers, and he isn't supposed to have them, so instead of going to jail, he gets to work for the government  That pisses me off big. -Dan Ben Rogers 05-14-2004, 08:52 PM Well, evil S.O.B.'s or not, they're geniuses, and any computer company would want to have them on staff. Stuff like the Sasser worm is probably all for publicity. David Harrison 05-20-2004, 12:43 PM If companies hired more people like him then maybe they would be able to do their jobs properly and not make defective products. I have no doubt that they try and make cracker-proof programs but they're obviously not trying hard enough if some kid can dodge round all the security barriers. MstrBob 05-20-2004, 03:07 PM Maybe if Microsoft hired some ex-hackers, they could better protect their systems from hackers? Of course that would require thought for M$... Ben Rogers 05-20-2004, 04:37 PM I actually think IE is MS's only fault... Windows is a good product. Well, maybe XBox is another folly, but we won't get into that ;) Daniel T 05-20-2004, 04:43 PM Nah, M$ has screwed up on plenty of their products. Microsoft Powerpoint, for example, doesn't float my boat. Originally posted by omega maybe XBox is another folly Yes yes, Sony or bust! ;) Ben Rogers 05-20-2004, 05:16 PM Geh. PP can look pretty good as long as you keep it offline, and keep it tasteful. Daniel T 05-20-2004, 05:17 PM Originally posted by omega and keep it tasteful. Hey! You just sucked the last ounce of fun out of PP!! Now it completely sucks! David Harrison 05-20-2004, 05:38 PM If it weren't for M$ we wouldn't have IE, which would be very good indeed. But if we didn't have M$ we wouldn't have ASP, and without ASP we wouldn't have Probes (http://www28.brinkster.com/probes/index.asp) which would be terrible!!! john_h 05-21-2004, 03:03 AM i can see the point of finding flaws in a piece of software, however, energy would be better spent doing somethign productive with that kind of intellect rather than exploiting a loophole or flaw and subjecting yourself to bubba in the joint discovering your loophole. if you really think someone is going to hire you based on your hack or virus, you arent as smart as you claim to be. sure, its possible, but its likely the media that makes you believe many or a majority of hackers end up getting good jobs out of it. most are 'script kiddies' just reproducing a very select few's works and getting in trouble for it, or not. if you can actually code a virus or trojan, put your mind to work on something productive. I was once a teen, and I understand the 'i dont give a shizzz' attitude, but wake up... that isnt going anywhere, you are not in a movie and the chances of being 'discovered' are about as good as if you went to Hollywood to be an actor. however, if you are actually that ingenious, then likely you will have many a job offer if you actually put your skills towards finding a job or developing your own business. if you dont, then you will wallow in angst until you do so... maybe some hacker admirers dont get what i am saying, oh well... but I would say to them, grow up and think about your future. If you want to have one outside the pen, then you will take those skills and do something more productive. btw.... I read a post in this thread about MS hiring some of these peeps to help their systems be more secure in future dev... MS will ONLY hire people with bachelors or higher, not some hacker. dang hackers and priams need to get a life MstrBob 05-21-2004, 06:58 PM True, but some of these hackers are college grads with background in computer programming. Now there are a lot of hackers who are people learning themselves and just doing it to see if they can. Actually, like the geek I am, I read a few months ago a big article about this all in the New York Times Magazine (for those of you who don't know, think to wide columns a page, large page, 7-page article = headache for me) Oddly enough, many virus creaters are German o.O? webdeveloper.com
