I recently saw that Google is using an RSS-like technology called Atom instead of RSS:

While today, Reuters announced that they will be syndicating their own news via RSS, including videos. Has anyone here used Atom, and if so, what are the pros and cons?

I have used RSS,however,I have only read about Atom specs.
The major and deffinitive distinguishing feature in Atom is that it may be used to create blog entries, which means an Atom processor/reader/writer may allow a user to post blog entries on a blogging website.
Where as RSS's primary usage is for information transfer over the internt in a uniform fassion so that RSS readers can read it and display this data, typically in news feeds.

I know its not allot of info but in my opinion thats probably the main diff between 2..;)
And ofcourse Atom can be used as news or info feed just like RSS
