NogDog 10-20-2006, 06:36 PM erm, i'm sorry but-what are you talking about?! The "World Series": the baseball championship between the winner of the American League (the Detroit "Tigers") and the National Leauge (the St.Louis "Cardinals"). If you don't live in the Americas or Japan, you probably care less about this than most of the USA cares about World Cup soccer. :) I love World Cub soccer, ufortunately it only comes around every 3 years. Plus, is only local once or twice in a lifetime. Just my luck, when it was actually in the US, it was during my 3 years living in Europe. I still watch several European football games a week, paying extra to get more games to choose from. I had a girlfriend from Manchester so I had to be a Red Devil fan, but my favorite back then was Sheffield Wednesday, they let Americans play before it was cool. I've often considered changing my Avatar to their logo just to see if anyone said anything. Wow, back on topic. <edit>Funny, I hurried to type all that because I have to get going to my son's high school soccer game. It is in a town (Hannibal) about a 2 1/2 hours from here, but I never miss a game.</edit> drhowarddrfine 10-21-2006, 11:31 AM It is in a town (Hannibal) about a 2 1/2 hours from hereYou all know Hannibal, MO. The birthplace of Mark Twain. St. Louis, btw, is a hotbed of soccer/football. At one time considered the center of US soccer having more soccer teams and fields than anywhere else in the US. St. Louis University was the reigning college team winning many NCAA championships over several years, all with local players. The professional league, MLS, contained many St. Louis born players. NogDog 10-21-2006, 11:49 AM Soccer has picked up popularity here in the US in the last couple decades, but if a World Series, Super Bowl, or NBA championship game was on at the same time as a World Cup final game, I think a lot more TVs in the USA would be tuned to the former (even if the USA team actually made it to the finals in the World cup, though it might be a close thing then). the tree 10-21-2006, 12:51 PM Is there any particular reason why the World Series is called the World Series? That one has always bugged me. drhowarddrfine 10-21-2006, 02:20 PM That's been asked before but I've never read an answer. Always been called that. LiLcRaZyFuZzY 10-21-2006, 06:20 PM From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_series The term "World Series" (short for "World's Championship Series") was first used in the 1880s, when baseball existed at a highly-skilled level only in the USA and international travel was rare. The traditional term "World Series" continues to be used for the Major League Baseball championship. wamboid 10-21-2006, 07:46 PM Back from the game, a 2-2 draw. I hate draws, that's my only gripe with soccer/football in general. But, my son finally scored his first goal this year so it's all good. My main gripe with MLS is that they don't run their season in conjunction with the rest of the world. Makes it tough during World Cup and other international competions. drhowarddrfine 10-21-2006, 11:32 PM St. Louis 7, Detroit 2 Did you hear about the Detroit reporter saying the Tigers will win in 'three' if they can stop laughing. wamboid 10-22-2006, 11:18 AM Looks like the Cards must have heard about it. Compared to those two, everyone elses avatars are pretty recent. Mr Initial Man 05-06-2007, 10:38 PM Well, isn't that what you do? boxxertrumps 05-07-2007, 10:55 PM No, its a stategy game. the numbered tiles show how many mines are in the squares touching it, so a tile with a mine on the top left, bottom, and right would show 3. you use the uncovered tiles to figure out where the mines are, through logic, and you right click on a square where you think a mine is. I hope your not yanking my chain here... No... No, minesweeper is a simple enough concept, i hope you are. Was it the one with the man with the pipe in his mouth? Mr Initial Man 06-29-2007, 10:08 PM No. It was of an anthropomorphic (i.e. human-like) lynx wearking glasses and smirking. EricG1793 06-29-2007, 11:26 PM No. It was of an anthropomorphic (i.e. human-like) lynx wearking glasses and smirking. That sounds neat; maybe you ought to put that back up! I don't have an avatar; I've tried to put one on but I can't figure out how to adjust the size to a 50 by 50 for some reason, so I can't use anything I try... how can I do this with MS Paint? Mr Initial Man 06-30-2007, 12:27 AM I've always used Irfanview for mine. www.irfanview.com I think the URL is. lynn 07-11-2007, 06:11 AM hi all i got a bleach icon it rules anyway i was trying to get my name under my icon change it wont change because the userCP is not same its been some time im a little rusty Lol  Mr Initial Man 07-11-2007, 06:15 AM Bleach is very cool. I love that show. rhsunderground 07-22-2007, 12:58 AM i now have my first new avatar in ages. Mr Initial Man 07-22-2007, 01:03 AM What is it of? jasonahoule 07-22-2007, 05:17 AM That is Dr Venture. Mr Initial Man 07-22-2007, 11:52 AM That is Dr Venture. And who is that? rhsunderground 07-22-2007, 12:08 PM you should know by now that all questions can be answered by google! http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=venture+brothers&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Mr Initial Man 07-22-2007, 02:14 PM Meh. I prefer Altavista. Mr Initial Man 07-23-2007, 04:14 AM As for avatars, back to an oldie but goodie! Miley000 07-25-2007, 12:20 PM I looking for Jona!! Miley000 07-25-2007, 12:40 PM never-mind!!!! Miley000 07-25-2007, 12:44 PM I do that all the time with I spy games....like if I didnt know what a barbed wire is (which i do) I would go to google.com and type it in, click on images, and.....TA-DA! I know what it is!!! :) Mr Initial Man 07-31-2007, 12:14 AM If you want to know more than you ever wanted to about barbed wire fences, try climbing one in the dark. Mr Initial Man 10-07-2007, 03:45 AM *Performs CPR on venerable thread* EDIT: *Claims credit for 2,400th Post* Sunny G 10-09-2007, 12:19 AM Hmmm.... I haven't been here for a while. When I logged on to see what was going on, I remembered that I replaced my classic, murderous duck avatar for my communist Internet Explorer. This simply would not do, so I switched back to good 'ol murderous butch. Ooooh, and he's angry. Fear the duck.:) == Edit == I just went to upload my avatar when vBulletin said I couldn't upload animated GIF's! This simply will not do. Why the devil can we not use animated GIF's?! I'll just have to use the one from my... *shudder* geocities account. *puke* == Another Edit == Apparently we can't use animated GIFs at all?! Even if they're hosted off-site. This is royally lame. Mr Initial Man 10-09-2007, 12:36 AM Animated GIFs are a no-go? Oh, NO! Um... *Pokes a mod, wondering what is going on.* Sunny G 10-09-2007, 11:54 AM Animated GIFs are a no-go? Oh, NO! Um... *Pokes a mod, wondering what is going on.*I already asked. http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162795 Mr Initial Man 10-15-2007, 09:45 AM *Reads post* Oh, goody! They've changed it back! Go Avatars! Sunny G 10-17-2007, 12:00 PM Butch is back, baby, in all his splendor. Fear the duck! Mr Initial Man 10-17-2007, 02:07 PM Duck duck GOOSE! *runrunrunrurunrun* I remember that game from YEARS ago wamboid 10-17-2007, 02:44 PM I liked the one with the mask myself. ducky fuzz, fuzzy duck - remember that one? EricG1793 10-17-2007, 03:29 PM YAAAAY! Butch is back!! :D *Keeps to self that he didn't even know that the duck was named Butch :p* Mr Initial Man 10-17-2007, 03:42 PM ducky fuzz, fuzzy duck - remember that one? Not really Sunny G 10-18-2007, 01:46 AM I liked the one with the mask myself. ducky fuzz, fuzzy duck - remember that one? :D Ha HA! You remember Zorro duck! Awesome! He's not animated, however. And what is "ducky fuzz, fuzzy duck"? Mr Initial Man 10-23-2007, 01:07 PM Oh, I remember ZorroDuck very well. :) NogDog 10-25-2007, 10:07 PM I've gone animated today. :) Mr Initial Man 10-25-2007, 10:34 PM Oh, that's cute! NogDog 10-26-2007, 12:02 AM Oh, that's cute! My first animated GIF. Guess I'm now a GIMP power user. :) Mr Initial Man 10-26-2007, 01:48 AM Never used GIMP myself... NogDog 10-26-2007, 02:32 AM As far as I know, the only thing that makes The GIMP better than most other graphics tools is the price (free); and since I'm not a graphics artist, that's the right price for me. :) Mr Initial Man 10-28-2007, 06:37 PM Sounds like it would be a good choice for me, too. wamboid 10-29-2007, 01:40 PM Finally had time to actually post again. I'm usually checking this site out at work, and have to stick to actually web development topics when posting from there. Ducky Fuzz was a drinking game we occasionally played back in the dark ages while I was in college. You actually needed everyone to be a little intoxicated before playing. It was real simple. Everyone would sit in a circle. The person to start the game would look either to their left or right and say fuzzy duck. The person they looked at would then either turn the other direction and say fuzzy duck, or look back at the person and say ducky fuzz. This would continue faster and faster until someone messed up and had to drink. I know, silly game. Mr Initial Man 10-30-2007, 04:40 AM Oh, sounds fun. :) I never got drunk in college, though. Tipsy, yes. Drunk, no. wamboid 10-30-2007, 07:36 AM The most fun was some of the pronunciations that would come out. My favorite was once when a girl I had just turned to and said fuzzy duck to looked back and said f*** a duck. Of course I replied with duck a f***, to which she replied NEVER! The only sensible thing to do at that point was down our beers and leave together. Unfortunately, I ended up married to her a year or so later. That's when the fun stopped. Mr Initial Man 10-31-2007, 12:03 AM Oh, my innocent eyes! wamboid 10-31-2007, 07:53 AM Oh, my innocent eyes! Come now, I've read your comics. Mr Initial Man 10-31-2007, 08:13 AM Come now, I've read your comics. They're not mine! They're Scott Ruhl's! I just did the website for them, that's all! Mind you, it says a thing or two that I actually found those comics funny. *Mumblegrumps and loses moral high ground.* Mr Initial Man 11-29-2007, 06:38 AM Just figured I'd change my avatar to get this thread going again. wamboid 11-29-2007, 07:28 AM Now that's dedication to a thread. Getting it revived even if it means hate mail. Mr Initial Man 11-29-2007, 07:42 AM Here's the thing about frames that no-body seems to want to admit: they worked. Not well, but they worked. Besides, the nice thing about flame wars is they last a wonderfully LONG time and they are endless amusement to someone who likes to stir the pot to see what comes up. wamboid 11-29-2007, 07:50 AM The forum must have thought I meant the hate mail would come from me - I was logged out when I came back to reply. Anyway, I would admit that, but I also changed to something better as soon as it came along. Mr Initial Man 11-30-2007, 12:49 PM So did I. I went from client-side includes to server-side. Still can't beat Frames for layout, though... *Grins evilly, is setting out "accelerant"* wamboid 11-30-2007, 10:27 PM Even though nobody seems to be biting yet, this is my attempt to keep you from humiliating yourself any longer, just to keep the thread going. Maybe my new avatar will bring the Missouri Tigers luck like it did the Cardinals back when I changed it last time. For those who don't know, the University of Missour Tiger football(American) team is playing Oklahoma tomorrow for the Big 12 Conference championship. If they win, they will play for the National Championship in January. NogDog 12-01-2007, 02:27 PM Even though nobody seems to be biting yet, this is my attempt to keep you from humiliating yourself any longer, just to keep the thread going. For those who don't know, the University of Missour Tiger football(American) team is playing Oklahoma tomorrow for the Big 12 Conference championship. If they win, they will play for the National Championship in January. As much as it hurts me to do so, I'll be pulling for Oklahoma, as I'm a Big Ten fan and would prefer to see Ohio State play for the championship. But it's not that important to me, and if it doesn't work out for OSU then I'll likely be pulling for Missouri to win it all, then. Unfortunately, my alma mater just lost the MAC championship game, and so will not be going to any bowl game. :( Mr Initial Man 12-01-2007, 03:13 PM Unfortunately, my alma mater just lost the MAC championship game, and so will not be going to any bowl game. :( Bowling's boring anyways. :D rhsunderground 12-01-2007, 09:26 PM i'm pulling for missouri. i'm tired of seeing oklahoma do well. Mr Initial Man 12-01-2007, 10:00 PM Oh, hey, I wondered if you'd post. So how do you feel about your post lasting so very long? wamboid 12-01-2007, 10:05 PM Hey Nogdog, no need to be against Mizzou, if Pitt can just beat West Virginia, you can have your cake and eat it too. My favorite team other than Missouri has always been Ohio State, so I'd like to see that. It's halftime right now, and it looks like a real possibility. On a slightly different note, in the NAIA (small schools), Missouri Valley College from right here in my dinky little town of Marshall, Missouri was supposed to play in the semi-final game today against Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It was in Sioux Falls and apparently they had some really nasty weather up there today. Game is postponed till tomorrow. wamboid 12-01-2007, 10:06 PM Bowling's boring anyways. :D lol! Just noticed that post. rhsunderground 12-01-2007, 11:48 PM Hey Nogdog, no need to be against Mizzou, if Pitt can just beat West Virginia, you can have your cake and eat it too. We had a touchdown called back on a very questionable penalty, or we would have won. Having said that, our team isn't nearly as good this year. Back to Mizzou. After a horrible 2nd half, it's once again time to play "What's that new Avatar?" Mr Initial Man 12-03-2007, 01:14 AM Hmmm... Does it have anything to do with the World Wide Web Consortium? wamboid 12-03-2007, 07:36 AM as someone who attends a GPAC school that plays sioux falls every year, your college is up for quite the shallacking - they beat us 73-0 this year. of course, this year we won 4 games, which is 1 less than the 3 previous years combined, but still... We lost, but the final score was only 11-10 Hmmm... Does it have anything to do with the World Wide Web Consortium? Not even close Mr Initial Man 12-03-2007, 12:44 PM Okay... It looks like some kind of owl. Maybe an early logo for a popular kid's magazine? wamboid 12-03-2007, 02:20 PM Good catch on the owl, but wrong about the kid's magazine. Mr Initial Man 12-04-2007, 02:29 AM *Ponders...* The only thing I can think of is a bookstore I once went to. Fang 12-04-2007, 07:17 AM A search (http://labs.systemone.at/retrievr/?sketchName=2007-12-04-12-49-28-596274.23#locator=upload%3Aupload.file.2007-12-04-13-04-47-323892.c3cuanBn.jpg) didn't help wamboid 12-04-2007, 07:23 AM Hint - Last Avatars were from the Missouri Tigers and St Louis Cardinals. I like almost all sports, and lived in several countries. I've come up with some clues that will eventually make it obvious, with a search. I'll drop one every so often. rhsunderground 12-04-2007, 09:59 PM i've got it - it's a sports team ftw. wamboid 12-04-2007, 11:03 PM But which one? I played football when I was in college, but most Americans wouldn't have called it that. I also played in Europe while in the Army back in 1991-93. This was my favorite team back then. At this point, googling the right 4 keywords from clues so far would put the team in the top 5 results. Mr Initial Man 12-04-2007, 11:06 PM So, it's a College Soccer team... wamboid 12-04-2007, 11:19 PM No, not college. Most obvious clue will probably come sometime tomorrow. Oops, that was probably a clue. LeeU 12-05-2007, 09:14 AM The Rice University Owls? rhsunderground 12-05-2007, 12:35 PM Sheffield Wednesday WOO wamboid 12-05-2007, 02:42 PM As usual, rhsunderground wins. Next clue was to be that Wednesday became my favorite day back in early 1991. Most people thought I liked them because they were very good in the early 90's (not even in the Premier League now). But actually, it was because they had an American playing for them waaaay before it became a more common occurance. Also, after one of my club games against an all English team in our league, one of them told me I was pretty good for a Yank. That night, several players from both teams were at my house to watch a Wednesday game, since it was actually available in my neighborhood (lived in the Netherlands). During the game, John Harkes was described by the announcer as being pretty good for a Yank. Kind of made me feel a kindred of sorts. OK, may have been a silly avatar contest, but at least the thread was revived for a few days, and even on topic. rhsunderground 12-05-2007, 05:37 PM the fact that it was revived AND on topic is truly a miracle. Mr Initial Man 12-05-2007, 10:10 PM *Pats himself on the back.* Well, wamboid's idea was better than what I tried to start. The avatar stays as it is, though. For now, anyways. Jick 12-09-2007, 04:57 AM I did it! I actually did it! I finally updated my avatar! :D Still Kenny... But a better-looking one that I worked on... Heres to another few (actually, probably a lot!) years with this new one! :p Mr Initial Man 12-09-2007, 12:41 PM ... Jick hath updated his avatar... THE END IS NIGH! (Now if I could only figure out who Nigh is... maybe it's short for Nigel?) Mr Initial Man 12-18-2007, 01:01 PM Which reminds me, who the heck is Kenney? Jick 12-18-2007, 05:02 PM :p Wait... are you serious? Mr Initial Man 12-18-2007, 11:42 PM Well, judging from your avatar, he's some kind of cartoon character, but who is he? Jick 12-19-2007, 07:46 AM Wait... you mean to tell me you've never heard of South Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park)? It's a very famous show. I've actually never heard of anyone who hasn't heard of it. :p Mr Initial Man 12-19-2007, 01:43 PM Never heard of it. *Has no television.* Jick 12-19-2007, 03:18 PM *Has no television.**keels over* How do you live with yourself!? :p Mr Initial Man 12-19-2007, 06:14 PM I amuse myself in causing mental consternation and causing others to suffer cranial meltdown. Mr Initial Man 01-07-2008, 03:24 PM *Pokes thread.* scragar 01-07-2008, 03:33 PM my avatar's fair easy to guess, but have a go at guessing it if you want. Mr Initial Man 01-10-2008, 12:47 PM It's from an animated show or a comic book. scragar 01-10-2008, 01:31 PM it was turned into an anime, although I doubt it was ever a comic book/manga. Mr Initial Man 01-10-2008, 02:09 PM Hmmmm... Naruto? scragar 01-10-2008, 03:15 PM nope, he's not as popular as naruto. Naruto is in hundreds of episodes, while this guy's anime only has 12. bit more info incase you need it: He is the title character of 1 game, and an optional (boss/joins the team) type character in both it's sequel and another game by the same developers. wamboid 01-10-2008, 03:22 PM is it Mahoromatic? scragar 01-10-2008, 04:36 PM nope, and to be honest I've never even heard of Mahoromatic... guess I'll try a little more info: He's a little over 1,300 years old, and lives in his deceased fathers castle, along with several vassals. After a bit of research I did find out that they released a manga series about the first game slightly before the release of the anime(never heard of it before, but I may have to try and find a copy now...). wamboid 01-11-2008, 07:16 AM I expected to wake up this morning to find that rhsunderground had it solved. I did a quick search yesterday of "anime pointed ears" is how I came up with my guess, but was at work and couldn't really look at any pictures or even really go to the sites, just looked real quick at some descriptions on google. Probably won't have time today until late tonight either. Will try throwing the new data in then unless rhs has it by then. scragar 01-11-2008, 08:24 AM your odds of getting it from pointy ears are slim(even with the character name there arn't many relevant results). Blast it. I'm running out of clues that don't make it too obvious. hopefully this one won't: netherworld with 2 other words that I've mentioned here already this puts it at first result :( - this is about the smallest push in the right direction I can give though, without being completely scryptic and sending you on a wild goose chase...(although, having said that the right 3 words from my previous posts put it 2nd on the results, and further refining get's it to be the first 10 with another keyword... so I've not exactly been cryptic so far...) wamboid 01-11-2008, 10:53 AM Prince Laharl? scragar 01-11-2008, 11:45 AM correct. rhsunderground 01-11-2008, 02:02 PM I expected to wake up this morning to find that rhsunderground had it solved. I did a quick search yesterday of "anime pointed ears" is how I came up with my guess, but was at work and couldn't really look at any pictures or even really go to the sites, just looked real quick at some descriptions on google. Will try throwing the new data in then unless rhs has it by then. flattered. unfortunately, i'm waaaaaaaaaaay to lazy this month to look it up :D wamboid 01-11-2008, 07:48 PM A quick search during break time at work revealed the answer. I swear, it was break time. Well, close to break anyway. It was Friday at least. Getting rid of the pointed ears was all it took, and there I was thinking I was being creative. Mr Initial Man 01-17-2008, 05:10 AM *Starts looking around for avatars he can use to make people guess.* wamboid 01-17-2008, 07:48 AM I'm guessing yours has something to do with web development? rhsunderground 01-17-2008, 10:59 AM guess mine plzkthx. scragar 01-17-2008, 11:02 AM that's the funny thing at the start of sheet music isn't it(trebble something or other)? NogDog 01-19-2008, 12:19 AM A treble clef sign superimposed with a bass clef sign. (w00t! My degree in music education finally has a use!) rhsunderground 01-19-2008, 03:05 AM A treble clef sign superimposed with a bass clef sign. (w00t! My degree in music education finally has a use!) winnar. Mr Initial Man 01-22-2008, 02:59 PM Not quite. The technical terms would be G clef and F clef. Whether they are treble and bass depend on which line they are situated. If the G clef is situated on the bottom line of the staff, then it is the French Violin clef. If the F clef is placed on the middle line of a staff, it is baritone; if on the top line, it is, I believe, the contrabass clef. (I'm not quite sure). W00t for obscure musical knowledge! NogDog 01-22-2008, 03:44 PM While you are correct for older musical notation, in all modern notation (i.e., the last couple centuries), the G clef is used for the treble clef and the F clef is used for the bass clef. The only clef that still wanders is the C clef (http://www.music.vt.edu/musicdictionary/textc/Cclef.html), and is rarely found now being used for anything other than the viola. Mr Initial Man 01-22-2008, 08:10 PM Nitpickery is the soul of trivia. My point stands. :D Mr Initial Man 04-13-2008, 12:54 AM This thread is sadly dead. I intend to revive it by giving you an easy round of "Guess the Avatar!" EricG1793 04-18-2008, 02:57 PM I nominate myself for the first contestant! :D Is it... a kitchen or bathroom floor tile pattern? Mr Initial Man 04-18-2008, 03:46 PM Nope. Here's a hint: The fact that I got this idea is proof that I have no life. Jick 04-18-2008, 04:59 PM It kind of looks like a little shot from FontStruct (http://fontstruct.fontshop.com/). Maybe? Mr Initial Man 04-18-2008, 09:48 PM Nope. Way, way off. wamboid 04-19-2008, 07:19 PM I know it's not, but it kind of looks like an othello board, especially if I was playing black. On a different note, I haven't been able to come here much lately. I usually had this site up while at work and checked it out fairly often, mostly while actual work stuff was processing. Now, Big Brother (my boss) has a new program where he monitors all everything we do on our computers, especially the internet. Of course, I could cheat, since I'm the programmer in charge of getting the data for him, but that wouldn't be fair. Plus, this guy is so nit picky that he probably has another programmer monitoring me. Mr Initial Man 04-19-2008, 07:44 PM I reiterate my hint, and give it more "oomph": The fact that I got this idea is proof that I have no Life. Sunny G 04-26-2008, 01:03 AM Mr Initial Man, does your avatar have anything to do with the following: Crossword puzzles Mosaics (Art, not the browser) Website development Binary Bar Codes Tetris mlim 04-26-2008, 01:46 AM Guys, Why spend so much time on these Avatars issue, when the world is about to run out of oil and foods soon !!! Bless you all. Jick 04-26-2008, 04:11 AM I think it would be great if we ran out of oil! Then we'd be forced to use alternative fuels... DOWN WITH BIG OIL!!! Anyway, back on topic... Yeah MIM, how about Sunny's ideas? Those seem like some good guesses. Mr Initial Man 04-26-2008, 05:05 AM They are good guesses, but they're unfortunately all wrong. However, I offer these further hints: 2 Dimensional mathematical concept Tetris shapes were tested. First worked out on graph paper. Man alive, I never dreamed I'd throw you guys for such a loop! scragar 04-28-2008, 06:07 AM something to do with tessellation? Mr Initial Man 04-28-2008, 05:13 PM Not tesselations. *Sighs.* ONE LAST CLUE! Conway Nevermore 04-28-2008, 05:22 PM It's a glider from the Game of Life.
