Speaking of which, I guess I should do some work. Mr Initial Man 05-13-2008, 07:20 PM I'm surprised it took so many hints, really. rhsunderground 05-13-2008, 11:47 PM today i finally caved in and bought the internet channel for my wii. luckily i have an extra wireless keyboard, so typing this is a lot easier than using the wiimote. hooray for nerds. Mr Initial Man 05-15-2008, 01:07 AM How would you use the wiimote? Mr Initial Man 06-18-2008, 10:16 AM Since we had so much fun guessing my last avatar, I decided to go for something OBSCURE! Guess away! Hint: Belt. Sunny G 06-23-2008, 12:16 PM Certainly not Orion's belt. I doubt it has any relations to the traditional belt. Am I right about that? Mr Initial Man 06-23-2008, 06:59 PM Certainly not Orion's belt. I doubt it has any relations to the traditional belt. Am I right about that? Not quite and correct in that: It has absolutely nothing to do with a traditional belt, but Orion's belt IS a step in the right direction, though a little far afield. Think of something a bit closer to home. NogDog 06-23-2008, 07:56 PM A stylized variation of a tree pentacle from the Tarot. Sunny G 06-23-2008, 10:20 PM OK, closer to home. The Egyptian Pyramids were built in relative position to match the constellation Orion, with the Nile as the Milky Way. But that's not it. Just thinking out loud. More hints! Your last Avatar Questionnaire was obscure, so this one must be a doozie. (Not literally, of course). NogDog 06-23-2008, 10:23 PM Your last Avatar Questionnaire was obscure, so this one must be a doozie. (Not literally, of course). Actually, the last one is really, really obscure now since it has nothing to do with the avatar image currently being displayed in those messages. Mr Initial Man 06-25-2008, 03:00 AM The last one was http://mrinitialman.furtopia.org/Stuff_Set_Aside/avatar3.PNG But another hint: Closer to home, but still a belt that's out of this world. Sorry, NogDog, you're WAY off... but it is a symbol of SOMETHING. Oooooh, I love being a geek... Sunny G 06-25-2008, 11:23 AM Closer to home, but still a belt that's out of this world. I keep thinking celestial phenomena. Is that right? The asteroid belt? Sunny G 06-26-2008, 08:56 PM The Kuiper belt? Mr Initial Man 06-30-2008, 03:29 AM Sorry for my long absense. Asteroid Belt is DEFINATELY on the right trail. Now for something a bit more specific. :) Sunny G 06-30-2008, 01:14 PM I got it! Victoria (http://www.suberic.net/~dmm/graphics/astro/asteroids.htm). Mr Initial Man 06-30-2008, 02:25 PM I got a 404 error until I changed .htm to .html . In any case: YES! It is the astronomical symbol for the asteroid 12 Victoria. So, who wants to toss in to something obscure? Sunny G 06-30-2008, 02:35 PM I knew it was something astronomical. Good one, Mr Initial Man! Here's my donation to the obscureness. I'll try something user friendly on you guys. Mr Initial Man 07-01-2008, 12:08 AM Oh, boy... Anything to do with music? Sunny G 07-01-2008, 12:13 AM Anything to do with music? Nope, this has nothing whatsoever to do with music. Think back... I'll be nice on you guys and include a subtle hint in every post here. That includes the post where I introduced this graphic. NogDog 07-01-2008, 02:29 AM I got a 404 error until I changed .htm to .html . In any case: YES! It is the astronomical symbol for the asteroid 12 Victoria. So, who wants to toss in to something obscure? Well, that's interesting, but perhaps more interesting would be explaining why you would want the symbol for that asteroid as your avatar. Are you an astronomer with a hobby of studying the history of British monarchs? Are you from one of the many cities/territories/etc. named "Victoria"? Are you a Kinks fan? Is your significant other named Victoria? Do you just like picking out totally obscure graphics that have nothing to do with you and use them as avatars? Inquiring minds want to know! NogDog 07-01-2008, 02:34 AM I knew it was something astronomical. Good one, Mr Initial Man! Here's my donation to the obscureness. I'll try something user friendly on you guys. Makes me think of the eyeball image on the computer screens in various pictures from the "Paranoia" RPG. Mr Initial Man 07-01-2008, 12:15 PM Well, that's interesting, but perhaps more interesting would be explaining why you would want the symbol for that asteroid as your avatar. No... I just wanted an obscure avatar for people to guess at. Ken--I mean Sunny--G, does it have something to do with computers? Sunny G 07-01-2008, 12:34 PM Ken--I mean Sunny--G, does it have something to do with computers? Who's Ken? Kenny G? Ouch, dude. And yes, it does have something do do with computers. AHH! The Canfusion! Mr Initial Man 07-01-2008, 01:49 PM Does it also have anything to do with comics? And sorry, I couldn't resist the comparison. Sunny G 07-01-2008, 01:56 PM That was the first time anyone's done that comparison. Took me a while to get it. :) Nope, nothing to do with comics. A billion dollar question: Should I retire this one? Mr Initial Man 07-01-2008, 03:22 PM Is it software or hardware? Sunny G 07-01-2008, 04:39 PM It's very soft software. Think back... Mr Initial Man 07-02-2008, 12:30 AM Think back to where? Sunny G 07-02-2008, 07:40 PM Think back to where? Think back... Clashing attire, MTV, Pacman. Basically all that with big plastic glasses, and don't forget those blazing bushy beards. Mr Initial Man 07-03-2008, 11:46 AM So we're going back to the 1980s? Sunny G 07-03-2008, 12:36 PM Yup, 1980's. Basically when the Altair 8800 reigned. So I ask you... Where do you want to go today? Mr Initial Man 07-03-2008, 07:59 PM Sounds like a very old browser of some sort. wh666-666 07-03-2008, 08:46 PM That was an obvious last hint sunny ..... I looked at that logo and knew it was a programming language or OS and just had to wrack my brains for a few mins. I believe its one of the O's out of the microsoft logo on the second generation MS logo that originated sometime in the 70's. The logo that replaced the original MS logo in black and white split over two lines and the logo before the famous MS logo in the 90's .... At least thats what i think it is? Isnt it? ...... Sunny G 07-03-2008, 09:07 PM ...the logo before the famous MS logo in the 90's...You, sir, are correct. :D [link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mslogohistorical.png)] I need to work on my hints. It was fun, though. Who's next? The Canfusion! Search for "Canfusion" with computers. You'll get this: [MicroSpeak (http://www.rockymountain.com/ref_microspeak.htm)] (with reference to "Blippet", the name of the 'O' symbol). A billion dollar question: Should I retire this one? Who in the computer industry has a billion dollars and just retired? Bill Gates. It's very soft software. The softest software of all: Microsoft. Basically all that with big plastic glasses, and don't forget those blazing bushy beards. The programming language BASIC, invented by Bill Gates (who wore big plastic glasses) and Paul Allen (with a bushy beard) who owns the Blazers. Basically when the Altair 8800 reigned. The computer they developed on, and used to write BASIC. (I know, this was a poor hint). wh666-666 07-03-2008, 09:52 PM YEYY !!! Do i win a prize ? :D :p Really liked that microspeak link ... Havnt read that before .... Sunny G 07-04-2008, 11:20 AM What greater prize is there than knowledge? :p Garlic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garlic) | PVC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pvc) | Staples (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staple_%28fastener%29) | 1932 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1932) | Etruscans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etruscan_civilization) Hollerith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_Hollerith) | Floresecence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florescent) | Beets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beets) | Louie Louie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louie_Louie) | Dust Bunnies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_bunnies) Mr Initial Man 07-05-2008, 01:03 AM Jagermeister. Cases and cases of Jagermeister. rhsunderground 07-05-2008, 06:53 PM Jagermeister. Cases and cases of Jagermeister.he makes a valid point. having just graduated from college (where i spent a lot of time with alcholics) i know that Jager is worth its weight in drunkenness. Mr Initial Man 07-06-2008, 03:56 AM And believe me, drunkenness weighs a lot. Just try moving a frat guy who passed out. Mr Initial Man 10-25-2008, 12:07 AM From the depths of oblivion, the behemoth crawls once more, summoned by the Dread Thread Necromancer! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (In other words, bump) xvszero 10-27-2008, 02:06 PM Do I even have an avatar? xvszero 10-27-2008, 02:11 PM I do now. Albeit it was built for 100x100 and is hard to see. Mr Initial Man 10-28-2008, 02:35 AM Yeah, these avatars are (thank heavens) kind of small. I like it. :) Jick 10-29-2008, 11:54 AM Wow! Way to beat a dead horse. ;):p Mr Initial Man 10-29-2008, 03:26 PM It's alive, it's alive! Now, if you want me to really beat a dead horse, I'll look for a few threads that have been closed for years! Bwahahahahahaha! >:-) *Cue thunder and lighting.* Actually, what might be cool is to keep this thread going until the forum software itself looks at it and says "Screw this! LOCKED!" :D rhsunderground 10-29-2008, 06:03 PM this isn't a dead horse - this is a dead mammoth. it's twice as long as the next-largest thread (now THAT was a dead horse) and was started by one of the coolest mods around. this thread is the stuff of legends. Mr Initial Man 10-29-2008, 06:29 PM this . . . was started by one of the coolest mods around. Which is why I refuse to let it die. </suck_up:to_mods> :D Mr Initial Man 10-30-2008, 02:56 PM As you can see, I missed my old avatar, so I welcomed it back onto the forum. EricG1793 11-07-2008, 06:41 PM Are you referring to the HP vs Dell thread? Or am I missing something even more major than that? :D Sunny G 11-08-2008, 01:26 AM Nothing here is major. This post, thread, & forum. It's all for naught. Even my words now. Mr Initial Man 11-08-2008, 11:17 AM Are you referring to the HP vs Dell thread? Or am I missing something even more major than that? :D I think it was some sort of birthday thread. Unfortunately, I can't exhume that one, as it was locked. And it ran to well over 1000 posts, while this hit the 2000 mark about a year ago, I think. EDIT: It was more than 2 years ago. Here was the original 2000th post: http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showpost.php?p=481141&postcount=1999 And the current 2000th post was then the 2000th reply. http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35251&page=171 Sunny G 11-08-2008, 11:21 AM 2552 posts all about nothing. MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!!1!1!!!1!!1!!!1!!1!!11!!11!1!1!!!1!!one!!!11!!1!!1!1!!1!!!eleven!!1!1!!! </evil> as you can tell, (http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?p=231440&highlight=moderator#post231440) we had lots of fun here. because i spent most of my time here, i was made a mod in june of 2004. since then the era of the great "discussion threads" where a topic was started and people jumped in all the time until mayhem ensued has been slowly fading - a quick glance at the lounge main page shows only 4 non-stickied threads with more than 15 posts and one of them is this thread. however, the lounge is still the lounge, and as long as i'm a mod here it will be the place to be. some epic threads of note: Forum Building Help (http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17781) - the original super thread currently has 598 replies. it features many of the original "big names" on the forum - the people that got this place off the ground and kept it going. Happy Birthday, Peo (http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38436) - originally, obviously, a happy birthday thread, it soon devolved into an attempt to overrun this thread as the forum's largest. it got out of hand and was opened and closed a few times before it was finally put to sleep in august of 2005. it died with 1201 posts. The real HP Vs. Dell battle (http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=155124) - this one also got out of hand a few times, but remains open with 519 posts. the 10 longests posts in the coffee lounge: http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27&daysprune=-1&order=desc&sort=replycount&pp=10 Mr Initial Man 11-08-2008, 12:36 PM How would you view the 10 largest threads, regardless of forum? Mr Initial Man 11-08-2008, 02:54 PM We've been discussing thread lengths, and I decided to have a look through the various forums I could get at and find out what was the longest threads in each. For most of them, I have 1 post, but if the largest thread(s) is/are sticky and/or locked, I'll include that/those plus the largest unsticky open thread as well, giving a maximum of 3 "longest threads". I can't give statistics for forums which have no threads I can access (which include #8, #12-#15, #17, #19, #23, #35), "forums" which are essentially groups of forums ( #1: Client-Side Development; #18: Server-Side Development; #32: Etc.; and #39: Site Management), forums that simply redirect me (#34, 36, #38), or the E-Commerce forums (#24 and #25, which I don't think I should have been able to access), but for the rest, I give the forum thread name, a link, and the post count. Mr Initial Man 01-24-2009, 09:43 AM Was that so hard? Yes. Yes it was. You'd be amazed how difficult I can make things. :D Besides, Google is often useless. Permit me to demonstrate: http://www.letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=Case+Car You're looking for an automobile built by the Case company. Lotsa luck. scragar 01-24-2009, 04:56 PM Yes. Yes it was. You'd be amazed how difficult I can make things. :D Besides, Google is often useless. Permit me to demonstrate: http://www.letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=Case+Car You're looking for an automobile built by the Case company. Lotsa luck. I never said it was always going to work. For that search though I don't think that's a fair repesenation, the Case company doesn't exactly feature top of the line with google, so it's no wonder you get bad results. Anyway, I want to change my avi, what should I pick, any recommendations? Mr Initial Man 01-24-2009, 05:17 PM Actually, it's a very fair representation of a lot of the problems with using google: Sometimes you simply CAN'T find what the heck you're looking for, because the words are so common! Here's another thing to google: Recorder. How many links have anything to do with music? (Thanks to Wikipedia, you CAN find something on the musical instrument.) scragar 01-24-2009, 05:27 PM I don't think the problem is google's fault, the problem is the frequency of the words simply being so high, I can't see a reason why anyone would call their company "Case", sounds like a really bad practice if you want to be found online. Spamdexing doesn't help either. Mr Initial Man 01-24-2009, 05:34 PM I don't think the problem is google's fault, the problem is the frequency of the words simply being so high, I can't see a reason why anyone would call their company "Case", sounds like a really bad practice if you want to be found online. There was a perfectly good reason: The founder was Jerome Increase Case (1819-1891). Mr Initial Man 01-30-2009, 12:23 AM Anyway, I want to change my avi, what should I pick, any recommendations? Something to do with music? wamboid 02-01-2009, 09:57 AM Been so long since I posted that I've even forgotten what my avatar looks like. My boss at work has started monitoring internet use very strickly. I could probably get away with anything since I wrote the monitoring program for him, but others in my department might be tasked with watching me. Yes, Big Brother is alive and well in my office. Mr Initial Man 02-03-2009, 06:39 PM Ain't that always the way. Yeah, if I forgot what my Avatar looked like, it would be a clear sign I need to spend more time here. *Checks to see what his avatar looks like.* wamboid 02-04-2009, 07:49 AM That's an oooold closeup of my grandson, so it must be time to change. In honor of the Superbowl just having been played (very vaguely), I think I will change it to a logo from the greatest football team in the world within the next couple of days. Any guess as to who I'm referring to? Mayday 02-04-2009, 10:24 AM The Tampa Bay Buccaneers! Obviously! :P Mr Initial Man 02-04-2009, 11:09 AM The Miami Dolphins, the only team to have a perfect season? scragar 02-04-2009, 12:00 PM Football? Now if American Football inspired the same kind of riots that real football did, I might watch more of it. scragar 02-04-2009, 01:01 PM I fully understand your feelings. Now if American Football inspired the same kind of riots that real football did, I might watch more of it. Hey, those riots just go to prove how much people care about the game. :p NogDog 02-04-2009, 01:03 PM As much as it pains me to say it, if you are talking about the all-time greatest NFL team in terms of NFL championships, it would have to be the Green Bay Packers (12), followed in 2nd place by my beloved Chicago Bears (9). Mr Initial Man 02-04-2009, 01:30 PM Hey, those riots just go to prove how much people care about the game. :p I never said they were a bad thing. Heaven knows they're far more entertaining than the sport itself. wamboid 02-04-2009, 01:38 PM And the winner is scragar, although I'm having trouble getting it uploaded. Of course, I hear that people in Liverpool would disagree, saying that the 2 greatest football teams in the world are Liverpool, and the Liverpool Reserves. Note, this doesn't mean I don't like American Football, there just wasn't anything worth seeing in Missouri this year from the Chiefs or the Rams. scragar 02-04-2009, 01:42 PM And the winner is scragar, although I'm having trouble getting it uploaded. Chelsea disagrees as well. Personally I think ManU wins out slightly, Chelsea should be where they are, they just got bought up the table, stupid money governed systems... What's wrong with your upload? NogDog 02-04-2009, 02:37 PM Eh, soccer. I've tried watching it from time to time over the years and just never got into it. A bunch of guys running around for 89 minutes of aimless activity punctuated by maybe a total of 1 minute of excitement. Supposedly highly trained athletes who when kicked in the shinguard roll around in agony like they just received a compound fracture, and then a minute later are up and playing again. And 90% of the time when it looks to me like something exciting is finally going to happen, it's blown dead for being off-sides. But then I enjoy baseball, yet I realize those who have not grown up playing and watching the game usually have little to no appreciation for it, so I suppose it's the same for me. We played soccer maybe once or twice a year in gym class in high school, and that's about the extent of my playing experience, and it had just about zero coverage on US television when I was growing up. wamboid 02-04-2009, 05:27 PM Only thing wrong with my upload was me trying to do it too fast during lunch break. I was using the wrong size pic - right size for another forum I frequent. As far as Chelsea, a couple of years ago maybe, even if I hate to admit it, but right now it is absolutely Man U. How can anyone argue with the current champions of England, Europe, not to mention the World? Even though I don't like Chelsea, I really felt for them when Lampard got sent off Sunday. It looked like they borrowed some refs from the league my son's high school is in. My son only got 2 yellows this year, even though he probably deserved at least 5. Thing was, the 2 he did get were on clean tackles. Same at every level I suppose. rhsunderground 02-04-2009, 06:55 PM And the winner is scragar, although I'm having trouble getting it uploaded. MorganA 02-04-2009, 07:37 PM i vectored a horse ass trophy for mine :) xvszero 02-11-2009, 02:40 PM Actually, it's a very fair representation of a lot of the problems with using google: Sometimes you simply CAN'T find what the heck you're looking for, because the words are so common! Here's another thing to google: Recorder. How many links have anything to do with music? (Thanks to Wikipedia, you CAN find something on the musical instrument.) Hmm, back when Napster was back I was into this obscure band called Incomplete that was on a split with another more popular band and wanted to see if I could find any more of their music. It was IMPOSSIBLE to find anything on them, it just kept bringing back a bunch of "Some random popular song -incomplete" files that were well... half of a song. Or Bad Religion- Incomplete- incomplete... you know, half of the song "Incomplete" by Bad Religion... NogDog 02-11-2009, 03:00 PM So just refine your search a bit to recorder musical instrument (http://www.google.com/search?q=recorder+musical+instrument). Mr Initial Man 02-12-2009, 07:43 PM NogDog: It's helpful that your suggestion will work for recorders--but xvszero's predicament still stands. Mr Initial Man 01-14-2011, 01:27 PM *Pokes EricG* Acrually, it reminds me of motor oil being poured into a bucket, and some of it is lighter-coloured than the rest. EricG1793 02-22-2011, 01:33 PM I'm so sorry I've waited this long to reply! At this point I don't remember exactly how it went, but I was standing outside trying to take a picture of the stars in the sky.
