congrats mel for post #2000

i tried putting my new avatar (http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=8b20d6757b564865f5142b3c204173cc) but 80x80 is too big, and it looked like crap resized to 50x50..looks like i'm keeping this one..

Ben Rogers
12-15-2005, 08:20 PM
MIM, how many times have you had to say that it isn't your drawing? You need a running count here. Maybe just times you've told Fuzzy it isn't yours? That's gotta be, what, like 38, by now? :p

Mr Initial Man
12-15-2005, 08:32 PM
No, you're exaggerating. It's only been 9 3/4 times. :D

Mr Initial Man
01-03-2006, 10:35 AM
By the way, did anyone get the reference there?

David Harrison
01-03-2006, 12:18 PM
Yes.

Edit: Though it was a pretty random time to reference it.

Mr Initial Man
01-03-2006, 06:00 PM
Well, I was replying to Ben asking me how often I'd commented about the lynx not being my drawing, so it wasn't all THAT random.

Mind you, I'm the webmaster of a comic strip called "Coach Random", so what did you expect?

Sunny G

But wouldn't Zorro Duck have a sword?

I was experimenting with lightsabers a bit, but the image I made looked crummy and looked worse when it was resized to 50x50. Maybe I should try again...

Mr Initial Man
01-06-2006, 01:02 PM
Well, what I did with my avatar was start out with a 50X50 image in Paint.

Ben Rogers
01-15-2006, 05:08 PM
Heh. No, I just have no ideas for webdev projects, and thus no interest in webdev. I might if I could listen to some damn music on my computer, but noo, soundcard has to make Trent Reznor mumble at me. And who wants angst queens mumbling at them? :D

Gotta call that guy up tomorrow. If he comes through, maybe I'll come back and finally hit my 3k. As for my excuse for the last x months...um, cancer hurricanes.

Mr Initial Man
01-16-2006, 10:29 AM
If you want angst, here's some Green Day for you...

MstrBob

Green Day is not angst, Green Day is too mainstream to be angst.

Ahh yes, the always prevalent attack of:

X is popular, therefore X sucks

 :p

Ben Rogers
01-16-2006, 02:04 PM
Heh, hell yeah. Not that you're one to be talking.

And if a band does become popular enough to get played on the radio, only their mediocre trend-following songs get played (I've never heard Negative Creep or the techno remix of Star****ers on radio, have you?)

Mr Initial Man
01-16-2006, 06:09 PM
Angst: An excuse for whining incessantly; a supposed reason for moping, an alleged cause for hatred of the world.

See Emo

Ben Rogers
01-16-2006, 07:34 PM
Angst, n.:an acute but unspecific feeling of anxiety; usually reserved for philosophical anxiety about the world or about personal freedom -- http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=angst

I could make quite a lengthy argument about my own opinion of the validity of angst, and the truths of it, but I'd prefer not to make myself sound so, well, angsty.

Mr Initial Man
01-16-2006, 08:49 PM
Hey, you tweak my nose enough for being Canadian, now it's my turn to tweak yours.

Ben Rogers
01-16-2006, 09:08 PM
Tweak my nose for what? If you were tweaking it for being American, I could understand, but I'm not even angsty, or emo. I barely even HAVE bangs, and I can fit my hands into my pockets! :p

Mr Initial Man
01-16-2006, 09:10 PM
However, you do listen to crap musicians like Trent Reznor. Sounds like a screw's pretty loose in there.

David Harrison
01-16-2006, 09:32 PM
I'm giving semi-serious thought to banning MIM for trashing quite a lot of music that I like, maybe I should start a poll...

Ben Rogers
01-16-2006, 09:32 PM
MIM...you're doing a rather good job of "tweaking my nose," bastard...

Mr Initial Man
01-16-2006, 09:39 PM
What, Dave? Am I supposed to simply let Ben trash a country like that? No, I don't like 9 inch Nails. I like Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I'm quite a bit into the ska scene, myself.

David Harrison
01-16-2006, 09:41 PM
Am I supposed to simply let Ben trash a country like that?Sure, why not?

I mean, it's only Canada. ;)

David Harrison
01-16-2006, 09:51 PM
"What the hell?" I wonder.

Mr Initial Man

CLEVER, fuzz.

Sorry, Sunny. I don't mean to be mean to you, but as long as you have that avvy, it's mandatory to at least consider mocking you. Cartoon ducks are teh llama, and Hobbes is the only good cartoon tiger.

Actually (no offense MIM) but animated animals are largely lame all together.

question: wouldn't it be were-duck?

David Harrison
01-18-2006, 12:48 PM
Well where-duck has the correct pronunciation I thought.

Mr Initial Man
01-18-2006, 01:46 PM
Wereduck. "Were" should rhyme with "deer"

LiLcRaZyFuZzY
01-18-2006, 02:19 PM
isnt it like wear-duck?

Ben Rogers
01-18-2006, 02:19 PM
No, I think Dave's right. BTW, I am officially teh llama. Just for irony, I'm allowed to use leet.

LiLcRaZyFuZzY
01-18-2006, 02:45 PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolf#Origins_and_variations_of_the_word

An alternative etymology looks to Old English weri (to wear) plus "wolf", thus bearing wearer of the wolf skin. :D

David Harrison
01-18-2006, 03:02 PM
We were talking about where-ducks, not were-wolves. :p

But since we're on the subject of etymology (http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=363)...

LiLcRaZyFuZzY
01-18-2006, 03:06 PM

No.

01-18-2006, 03:12 PM
hmm..is were pronounced like weeere?

Sunny G
01-18-2006, 03:18 PM
No I don't think so... Were is pronounced like Wear and Where.

David Harrison
01-18-2006, 03:57 PM

Ben Rogers
01-26-2006, 04:12 PM
LCF, it's still feminine, just now in a more "WWE" way.

It's the name. If it was LilCrazyFuzzy, lilcrazyfuzzy, or Lilcrazyfuzzy, it'd be okay. But the alternating capitalization makes you seem like a girl.

However, you did make Dave make an ass of himself by saying "way cool," and I applaud you for that. Hehe.

Oooh, way cool avatar, I love it. Reminds me of Salad Fingers and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Oh, fur Nexxus's sake, Ben! I'm not trolling! If I were trolling, then I'd say Tim Berners-Lee was the antichrist and CSS was of the devil. The nice thing about frames is they worked. They didn't work perfectly, but then neither does CSS.

Saying I still like frames isn't trolling. It's just being really stubborn.

lol dont listen mr initial. Ifs its any consilation i like tables and frames as well. The great thing about tables is although they can become very long they are extremely simple and perfect for starting out webdevelpers who dont know css or any other coding and are getting to grips with coding. Its just like keyboards and mice, they are obselete now because now you have touch screens and stylus for input but keyboards and mice although a waste of space will stay around for years on end because its simpler and what people prefer. Keep using tables, does it matter so long as its properly coded and asthetically pleasing and generally does the job (in regards to speed etc).

grrr...psht psht, no tables, no frames!

tables and frames lead to the dark side of the Web, the easy side..the tempting side..
Once you've been there, it's hard to come back to the Light

the tree
07-07-2006, 04:25 PM
I managed to turn back to the light perfectly well thankyou, anyways, tables roxxor teh big one!!!1!!!!1!!!one!!!!11!!!!eleven!!!!!!1factoral!!! because they are semantically correct and a perfectly coded table truly is a thing of good markup.
Tables for layout are a cheap hack, not that different from the CSS hacks that we're all guilty of although perhaps with more consequences.
Frames serve a purpose and that purpose is the results page for a Google image search, I haven't seen another really apropriate use of frames but until some great hero of free infomation doth fell the empire of Google, frames shall forever have thier place in the web. In truth, they may still, but then they'll be appended with an X, which is awesome.

LiLcRaZyFuZzY
07-07-2006, 06:32 PM
of course tree, when i say "table" like that i meant "table for layout", i sure do use table for tabular data, figures and stuff like that, that's their purpose...

Mr Initial Man
07-08-2006, 05:23 PM
Ah, framesets. A subject near and dear to my heart. Think of them as Client-Side Includes, and you'll know why I love them. They're actually as easy to maintain as, say, SSIs, and you can use them on a lot more hosts, free, paid, or whatever.

I have seen ONE thread with more posts. On another forum, it was a game to count from 1 to 10,000. Let me tell you, it makes for very boring reading. This one wanders all over the place, but the scenery is nice.

One of the forums I frequent has a counting game, but it's great fun because people compete to find the most obscure way possible of expressing each number.

Anyways, this thread is most excellent and I only just noticed the MIM has a tiny postcount, which is odd because I've always considered him on of the regulars.

The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy is Adams' his best-known book, though my favorite was The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul.

Anyway, as far as Discworld goes, take a look at http://www.terrypratchettbooks.com/discworld/ and then start with The Color of Magic (http://www.harpercollins.com/features/pratchettbooks/description.aspx?isbn=9780061020711) and learn to fear The Luggage. ;)
