i'm new to javascript, need some help!!

Can anyone help!!
I haven't used javascript before, I'm trying to use the javascript for a fading slide show. When I open up a new page and try out the code it works great, but when I try to place it into my existing page (which is set out in layout tables using dreamwaver mx) I can't get it to work. I already have some javascript in the page from dreamweaver, has this got something to do with it
