<rant type="confused" src="nerds.exe">
does anyone besides me wonder about the future of the english language due to the playground that has become the internet? will acronyms like LOL, ROFL, LMAO, J/K, WTF, TTYL, NM, and others make it into the oxford dictionary? will people learn to conjugate verbs with the ending -xor, such as haxor and suxor? will the word 'pron' replace 'porn' and in 20 years will some nerd think that he's cool because he starts calling pron 'porn'? will thoughts be put into cheesy html brackets, as i have done? will coffee houses be replaced by chat-houses? will microsoft change it's corporate logo with some semblance of M$? will practical capitalization as we know it vanish? will i ever find my pants? will currency become antiquated by the onslaught of internet business? this startles me....

You know, you should have your own blog... :rolleyes:
Maybe this will provide some insight for you, Rhs...
Ye Olde English Sayings (http://www.rootsweb.com/~genepool/sayings.htm)
And here is a Modern English to Old English dictionary (http://www.mun.ca/Ansaxdat/vocab/wordlist.html) for you.

Internet shorthand will never make its way into the english dictionary, because the only people who use it heavily don't care about the english language; they speak however they wish. Unless the world is suddenly taken over by the mindless idiots who roam the internet saying things like "lol dat sux an u rox," then I think we are pretty safe.

That will NEVER happen.. If it does, we are all doomed.
If anything, the english language will only get more complicated. Infact, it definetely will become over-complicated as technology continue's to develop.
Regards.

Right you are, and we all have our pet peeves. I just came across a new site that lets you let go - of your peeves. Funny site, called www.freethepeeves.com, from Atlantic Monthly editor Barbara Wallraff. You can take quizzes (and if you're right, the woolly peeve creature waddles off the screen squeaking), find out about other people's peeves.
Kind of neat - therapy for all of us...
