Hi,

I am working on a project for school and need some data to work with. I am asking if people who would have a spare minute to export their internet explorer favorites and send it to my email.

you can send me partial lists, or even better, the whole directory.

that would help me alot if you have time... I am working on, yet another, search engine. but this one is just for my research.... I dont seriously think it would take the place of google or some others; like I said, its just for a project, and I can let you know about it if you really wanted to know.

send to hal242@excite.com

I don't use Internet Explorer, and real browsers call them bookmarks... ;)

I dont want to get into some debate about what is a real browser and what is imaginary, I just need some data and IE is pretty real as far as user-based demographics and my research.

I like Mozilla, though, too.

oh, and thanks in advance for the links

Kind of odd, though, seeing as we're not exactly using "books." Okay, if you want to get all technical on me, some people are using "notebook computers," but it's not the same thing. Bookmarks is a cooler word than favorites, though. They should call them something like... Sitemarks, or... Webmarks... or something.

The point is, those are my 'favorites', everyone else list yours... its not a big deal. They are actually not bookmarks either, well sorta, they are stored in the tool bar folder, so they are toolbar items.

You know, you might have a better chance of getting people to export their bookmarks for you if you tell us why you want them...

Pyro, maybe the more appropriate question is, what kind of project?

no its not a secret... I think i said its a search engine in my first post.

I didnt think people would be more interested than that level of detail, so I left it at that... but I can tell you more...

its just a search engine for a project I am working on. I need data, and the more the better, so I have results for the search results page, and some good pages I can parse through; which is more fun than searching some database for 'example1'. When I can enter into my search criteria 'gaming motherboard', I will see how the phrase is queried, and can see a variety of results... not just 'example1, example2, directory12, directory23' etc. etc. etc.

as far as having the files exported to a bookmarks file (htm) thats not the big deal, I can cut and paste, but the exported file is a easy way for people to do it in like 2 seconds, and not have to cut and paste, plus, its a few less steps for me, is all.

hey this is a great idea, not nesicarally the search engine, but having people share their bookmarks. I'm always looking for great sites, that either can teach me more about web-design or can be a great example of quality design, thanks everyone :p
