Weird characters only on CF pages using JavaScript

In Netscape 4.77 in my Cold Fusion page my JavaScript with MouseOver Link rollover pop up messages changes the characters on the page and turns them into squares and weird characters after the JavaScript MouseOver rollover message comes up. If I redo the page from Cold Fusion to an HTML page the JavaScript works with no character problems on the web page.

What can I do to fix this issue with Cold Fusion, Netscape 4.77 and JavaScript where it only does it on some of my JavaScripts such as mouseover link messages and a pop up text scripts?
Why do I have this problem with our Cold Fusion MX pages but not with HTML pages?

Did you try to ask this to ColdFusion manufacturer(Macromedia?)

I asked in their forum but got no answer. Any advise on what I can check?
