I created an image in Photoshop..basically it is a large square with a second layer at a reduced opacity.

I wanted to save it for a web image..actually I am using it as a background for a div column.

Problem is that the center of the window image no longer has its inner part (the reduced opacity inner part)

I cannot use it as a JPG, it needs to be a GIF.

How can I save and export a gif with all its needed parts..is there a specific thing I need to do so parts with reduced opacities show?

Assuming you aren't having any trouble saving the file as a gif, can you post the gif & psd files? Maybe we can make it work for you.

If you want to do it yourself, you might try merging your layers before using the Save for Web option. Remember to save a copy of your original before you do anything that can't be reversed.

Well..I did try merging the layers but when I go into Save for the web that same part won't show in the optimized version.

I just don't get it..I tried the Locking transparent pixels and locking image pixels but nothing works.

Here is my image I want to use..as you will see, the interior has a pale purplish hue....I need this because I want the background of my web page to show through it...however when I save and upload the window thing..the interior is simply not there. It isn't even a case of the web not showing the opacity properly....

P.S...Sorry for the cruddy image...

Actually I should back up a bit..I created a web page in Photoshop..then I exported the background then I would crop various parts, and eliminate the background and other unneeded things before I export it.

That really shouldn't matter though.

OK. I think maybe I understand what the problem is. When you create your image, if you want something to be able to show thru it, all layers of the image have to be partially transparent. Your description sounds like only one layer is transparent, and that's not going to work.

Also, I still don't understand how anybody creates a web page in Photoshop. A mock-up, yes. But a website, no. Just me, I guess.

Yeah..it is a mock-up..anyways as for the GIF..I want the frame of the window image to be solid...only the inner part is transparent enough for the background of my web page to show through...so I will try another angle.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

It sounds like you'd want part of your gif to be only partially transparent.
In other words you'd like to cotrol the opacity after you saved it for web? Somewhere between 0% and 100% opacity?

Well, if you are, technically you can't do that. The transparency on a gif must be either 0% or 100% opaque and nowhere in between. Either completey solid or completely transparent.

What if he used .png?

It looks like you can... provided that it's saved at 24-bit. I've never really worked with ping's myself though.
