There was a thread about which hosts people use not long ago in this very forum. I ended up using web-hosting.com to provide the hosting for my site, and I also decided to use them to register my .com for me (although someone advised against it). It sounds like you're relatively new to the webdev thing, so first thing first is to actually make a site, while you're developing it you might want to put it online using a free host, free hosts have adverts though so eventually you may want to get paid hosting and a domain name later on down the line. the tree 07-06-2004, 11:08 AM Lava Lamp, You may have noticed that mguneetmakkar does have a free-hosted site already. If you look under his post there is a 'www' button, that links to his homepage. David Harrison 07-06-2004, 11:11 AM As it happens I didn't notice, never mind. I'm not trying to offend, but are you sure you want to get paid hosting and a domain for it yet? fssoft 07-06-2004, 04:38 PM A really good free web host for a domain is Staghosting (http://www.staghosting.com) and to get a domain name for $8.50 MyDomain (http://www.mydomain.com) mguneetmakkar 07-07-2004, 12:40 PM thanx people but what i want 2 no is that after i register a domain where do i store the pages and stuff. David Harrison 07-07-2004, 04:07 PM Well that's where your web hosting comes in. You usually pay someone to let you put your files on their server, then you can either buy a donain through that company or buy a domain yourself and tell the domain to point to the files one you host. mguneetmakkar 07-08-2004, 11:17 AM lavalamp ,i didnt get get what u mean by sayin that u direct the files??? can u explain a bit David Harrison 07-08-2004, 11:46 AM Well if you already have a domain, you'd fill in a form on the host's site saying that you want to use www.xyz.com for your site, they'll do a whois lookup and say that the domain is taken, you click the button that says "This is my domain" (or something similar) then they'll ask you for lots of information to prove that the domain is yours. webdeveloper.com
