Hello all - It's good to be here.

I have searched all around for a solution to my situation and figured I would come to the pros and ask for advice.

Is there a way to block, or otherwise make miserable, those losers who go to a site's guestbook and use it for free advertising?

I have an IP blocker script and I'm sure it will work for those that have been there already, but, what about the future?

Does/has anyone here encountered this problem and what did you do about it? Out of those who want sites designed, many of them do want a place for their visitors to leave comments, etc. To password protect, of course, is moot.

Is there an alternative to a guestbook style page that is more secure?

Thanks ya'll.
Best,
petra

This page (http://www.webspiner.com/searchengines/spam_guestbook.htm) contains a summary of the problem and some useful suggestions. Many of these posts are not designed to advertise directly but to improve search engine rankings. The best thing to do is probably to disable HTML in posts and/or prevent search engines from indexing the page, so this doesn't work.

Adam - I so appreciate you taking the time to respond to my query.

Thank you, thank you!! I, at least, do not feel so alone in this situation!! I went to the page you offered and found some great information.
I shall implement some of the advice I found there right away and get this business straightened out.

Spammers have got to be the lowest form of social being! God forbid, however, that any of THEIR rights be violated!

Thanks again!
Petra
