I'm redoing a site for a music label- and they recently got me the ftp info from the person who originally did their site.

I have a feeling the info they gave me was wrong but before I write them I want to double check and make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

i was given an ID, a password and told the server was www.nameofthesite.com.

Ive tried this numerous times and was told the login info was wrong. I just wanted to make sure there isn't a setting I should know about. Also, is ftp usually case sensitive? the password I was given has caps....i've tried it both ways, to no avail.

Like I said, its most likely the wrong info, but I wanted to double check :)

In order to FTP, you need the username, password and the ftp server to which you are going to upload to e.g ftp.myisp.com.

Find out which ISP is hosting the site and they will be able to provide you with the correct ftp address.

so the ftp address wouldn't be the address of the actual webpage (which is what she gave me) but instead the company/server that is hosting it?

I've ftp'd before, but only to school accounts, and never a real website.

it would be http://ftp.sitename.com

It might be the same but seldom is. You need to get the real location from someone who knows but it could be simply nameofthesite.com or, as Neczy suggests, ftp.nameofthesite.com or something totally different related more to the hosting company than the site.
