I am new at learning about Search Engines;

The last 5 paragraphs of this article surprised me:
http://www.findmyhosting.com/web-resources/Articles/keyword-rich-pages.htm

It's about adding small transparent gif images at the bottom of home pages.
Do pages usually have those transparent 1X1 pix. gif images? Is that serious and necessary? Thanks.

from my understanding the transparent gif isn't neccessary. Normally you use that gif it to keep your tables in tact (by resizing it). It's got nothing to do with SEO. You could give the gif an alt tag with a few keywords on but most major search engines would penalise you for doing this. (They class it as spaming - same as if you put a load of keywords in the text the same colour as the background).
Hope this helps.

I understand the article like this:

If your indexpage have no room for links to all page's then use a transparent image in place of some "hidden" text.

Search Engines like Google, MSN and Yahoo will penalise you for 'hidden' text and may even remove you from their listings altogether!

It's actually a bit silly that solution with a gif image. :)

If you want a good search engine submission you need to figure out a site navigation that interlinks all of the website pages. This is easily done by utilizing nested lists as navigation. A good example is the Accessible Website Menu (http://www.udm4.com) by Brothercake. It is important to interlink pages with each other in a non-javascript way since most search engines crawls the web with javascript disabled.

What if you have a page in 10 languages and you use one front page for navigation to the first language?

All this transparent images is for is "spamming". These people are defiantly spammers, and not even good ones, while we are at it. They should not specify the dimension of the gif image if they do place it in their pages.

I would only use transparent gif images in a page if I don't have any (or enough) pictures to use for the alt="" attribute. Generally 10 alt="" is good per page. Help with the ranking and such.

:D :D :D :confused: :D :D :D
