So after finally switching to css, then getting this webpage (http://bulldog.unca.edu/~scbuck/ff_new/) tweeked and validated (thanks to MstrBob!), I thought I was good to go. It looks great on my ie 6.0, opera, firefox, netscape, but the person im making the webpage for says it still dosent work with their ie 6.1...
they said they're lots of gaps, the scales didnt show up. etc. First of all , I didnt even know there was an ie higher then 6.0? I thought maybe they were talking about the service pack 1 so I downloaded that and it still looks fine?
Is there a chance its not their browser but their computer? or maybe a specific setting on their browser?
Can anyone shed some insight into this?

IE 6.1 o.O? Never heard of it. IE hasn't released a new "version" since 6. There have been tons of service packs since then, but nothing that should mess with the CSS box model.
Wait a second, did a google while writing this, found this page: http://weblogs.asp.net/rmclaws/archive/2003/12/16/43906.aspx It's the IE shipped with Windows XP SP2. Have they messed with the box model once more? I don't know. I can't test it myself because I don't have it.
Perhaps your friend could supply a screenshot.

ah man- I miss class projects where you only have to worry about your stuff being compatible on one computer :) I guess this is the real world.
I'm emailing the people to see if they can send me a screenshot.

ok so apparently shes saying she has ie 5.2 on a mac, and not 6.1 (how she got that confused I dont know)
This is good because it means the site is not working with an old outdated browser rather then the latest up and coming one which everyone is going to have :)
she seems content with the fact that it dosent work on the older browser, so as long as shes happy, im happy.

5.2 is the newest on a mac. I think, lol.

That's sad. That people actually use IE on a Mac, that is.

I think 5.5 is the latest, isn't it? Why would anyone want to use IE anyway, when you have access to Safari and Firefox?

Most high schools and elementary schools encompass all Mac labs and out of the education packags, the administration, whom does not know anything about computers, purchases whatever is the cheapest--aka: Mac with Microsoft products (excel, word, ie5, etc). So, infact, it's the administration's fault.
When I was in highschool, the principals didn't want to get a domain for the school or pay me to do the IT web site because of technicalities. It's a painful and grueling process, trust me on this. It really boils down to the fact that the administration is stubborn and doesn't see the bigger picture of having better computers and/or programs.
I am talking about the iMacs that are given to schools as an educational package, not the G4's or whatever the newer Macs are.

Really? The majority of computer labs that I've seen are all entirely PCs. I think I saw one computer lab made of Macs, but even the teachers' network was made of PCs. Maybe it's different in Canada. *shurg* I've really only seen computer graphics people, some people into making their own music, and yuppies with Macs.

Heheh, since most Administrators do not know anything about computers, and they have all the power, they just purchase the most generic educational computer package that other high schools within the area have.
Also, as soon as Administrators hear something like, "yeah, Macs need less maintenance.", then they go for it.
For the CAD lab though, they have P3's at 800Mhz (I think) with 512 MB SDRAM. AutoCAD is fun. :)
