The only people who really care about how many hits the site has are the people behind the site. In other words, counters are pointless for actual users of the site. Why is the menu basically gone on every page except for the home page? I pretty much HAD to use the back button. So much blue, so little of anything else to break it up. Text on top of text in the background makes it hard to read the text that you want to read. the tree 07-31-2004, 05:26 AM spufi Try your site in a non-IE browser. I haven't tried it in IE, I can't even remember where IE is on my computer. Maybe that'd explain why there a massive input box above the homepage that appears to serve roughly no-purpose what so ever? It's a free counter, they all tend to be visible, don't worry about it. Your page is far from valid, look at this http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.etabustours.com philaweb 07-31-2004, 06:35 AM Originally posted by glenmac Couldyou please supply me with some constructive input on this site? Your menu dropdowns and the text ticker doesn't work when javascript is disabled. The "terms", "email us" pages has diferent layout than the home page without navigation. The only navigation available is the back button. philaweb 07-31-2004, 06:40 AM Originally posted by the tree It's a free counter, they all tend to be visible, don't worry about it. A commercial website with a free counter? philaweb 07-31-2004, 02:10 PM glenmac, Free PHP counter script (http://www.stadtaus.com/en/php_scripts/counter_script/). You can add any custom images to the image file of that script. :) spufi 08-01-2004, 03:03 AM Originally posted by the tree It's a free counter, they all tend to be visible, don't worry about it. The purpose of a hit counter is to show how many hits the site has. Any professional site is going to be able to get that information through their web host. It's pointless info for the user, and thus shouldn't really be used on any "real" site. glenmac 08-01-2004, 02:09 PM The counter was put there at the request of the client. NOT MY IDEA!!. I tried to tell the client to access his server logs but they are very iliterate with computers. philaweb 08-01-2004, 05:51 PM Originally posted by glenmac ...but they are very iliterate with computers. My guess is they hired you to create their website because they are not computer literate and possibly do not have the time or interests in getting computer literate. If one does webdesign for a living or aspires to do so eventually, it is always necessary with some good salesmanship. It is the challenge for a decent webdesigner to be confident in his skills and knowledge to be able to sell his design ideas to even the most iliterate person and convince his customers of the advantages of his design versus other designers outdated and tacky designs. spufi 08-01-2004, 06:33 PM Originally posted by glenmac The counter was put there at the request of the client. I would make a nice little write up with screen shot images that walks them through the process of finding that info for themselves. Do that, or just e-mail them the stats, maybe even a copy of the page where the results are shown, so they can see you aren't just making up numbers. webdeveloper.com
