Profile system

hi, i wasnt sure at first but now i know that perl is used for what i want so here goes. basically i want to create a profile system similar in vast ways to systems such as face party or msn, where users have a profile, with a picture and lots of information about them, and i was wondering how to go about doing this, please bear in mind i know nothing, so try not to be techinical or anything with me i found something called profile manager on fatscripts.com nut acnt work it out due to my own incompetence and it also doesnt have the pictures functionality so is therefore not good enough, any help will be much appreciated, thankyou all in advance.

Hi Matt,

Given that you are new to CGI, you might want to consider downloading a free (or low cost) user registration / profile program.

It sounds like you've already tried downloading something, without success. You might also look at php scripts as well, since there are good profile systems there (if your host supports php).

My advice would be to keep plugging away with downloadable scripts. Building it from scratch will be a real headache for a beginner, and the potential security holes are enormous.

thanx jim, ive managed to find a way whre i might be able to add a chat system to my forums which is kind of half way there really (as i'd prefer not to scrap my original forums due to the amount of posts and things i think i now need a way to modify the profiles system, i'd imagine theres a way i can edit what goes on a profile? i just don't know where to start.

If you're still having problems with this matter, try purchasing a script on http://interlogy.com - These Profile Managers are very userfriendly with a nice and easy to understand admin table.
