first of all, do not save anything to your hard drive. I suggest you get a copy of knoppix http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=44 , try to get the iso on another pc, then burn it to a disk and boot into it on your pc, then you should be able to hunt down the file and recover it. But it is important that you do not save anything to your hard drive. When a file is deleted it is not really lost until it is over written with another file. So you would be wise to just shut your pc down and start using another one until you get the file back.

You can also recover the file by booting into dos, but if you dont have dos skillz I suggest knoppix.

Also: http://www.ntfs.com/ maybe helpful.

Well i guess that idea is out of the window as i have saved several files since then oh well thanks for your help again i guess its back to writing the article again. Another question that has been bothering me for a while and since your an asp.net man yourself why is it in the development section of this forum as i thought it would be better suited in the server side bitty.

Cheers again

No, try to recover it. Just do not save anything else. Just hope those files were not saved in the same location (location on the hard drive). I dunno, I think some other categories need to be moved around too. Notice how dhtml and js are separate.

I have only used knoppix one time, so I am on it right now trying to figure out how you would go about doign file recovery. I downloaded it for that reason but have not needed it. I am posting in Konqueror as we speak. You can see the hard drives, the partitions start as desktop folders, like I can see pagefile.sys in my c: partition as we speak. But I guess to find the file you deleted you just go to where it was. Not sure. Nope didnt work. Ill keep trying to recover a file I deleted (to figure out how to do it).

Hello,

DataRecoveryWizard utility can help. Speaking about me, it was
easily able to restore deleted, lost file and unformat drive,
so I think you will also find it quite useful. Really recommended
tool, give it a try.
