photoshop fading problem

I want to make the picture look like fading from one side to anoter side. That is, one side is very clear, another side is very fuzzy. Can photoshop do this? I tried the whole day, but still don't know how to do it. Any body knows please tell me. Thank you very much.

You can make it do it with a little help from you.

Use the square Marquee tool and select about one third of the area you want blurred. In other words do it in three steps.
The first step start at one edge. Select one third the area to be blured.

Click on Filter/Blur/Gaussian Blur. Set the pixels of the blur to, say 3 and OK.

Next, select the second third next to it. This time set the pixels to 2 and OK

The last third set the pixels to 1 and OK
If you end up with any objectable iregularities, you can use the Blur Tool Set at 50% or less to smoothe them out. Make a copy and experiment with that first.
