I'm considering dropping my handle 'omega' all together and simply using my actual name, meaning on sites, signatures, and usernames. Opinions, anyone?

Sam
08-23-2004, 05:54 PM
good idea. its much more respectable to use your real name instead of your handle, especially when commenting on other people's sites (imo)

Ben Rogers
08-23-2004, 06:00 PM
Hm... isn't there a mod that has been changing people's names on request as of late...? *Racks brain* What's his handle (so I could request a name change if I decided to...)?

I use the pseudonym "Mr Herer" because:

A) It sounds like a real name. (Which it actually is. It just isn't my real name).

B) I've always used it ever since I was about 15.

C) People that recognise my name are (for the most part) like minded people that are entirely different from the type of people commonly associated with the activities and personality types of the activities commonly tied in with the activities tied to my pseudonym.

and

D) I like it.

I don't really bother use my real name (not the one I am called by, nobody fully pronounces my name) because just about every American and southern English person can't seem to understand it. Well... They understand it. They just can't seem to grasp why it is my name. I tell them "that's just what people call me" and they tend to question why. Obviously it must not be a common abbreviation in the previously mentioned areas. The common abbreviation from those areas is one I can't stand to hear, let alone ne called by.

Ben Rogers

I'm no longer sure if I want to know what 'Mr. Herer' means... but I see your point. At one time, I liked the name 'omega', but now I realize just how corny and overused it is... (Note: I thought your name was really Mr Herer, lol)

David Harrison

I was thinking of dropping the name lavalamp ( ) in favour of my real name, but then one thing stopped me. All of the posts I'd made in the past would keep the name lavalamp and only the new posts would use the new name.

I like to think that I've said some useful things in the past, but with a name change those posts would no longer be associated with me. :(

Ben Rogers
08-23-2004, 08:59 PM
LOL. I think that that encourages me to change, especially with my resolution to stop making fun of Canadians, and to stop posting so damn much in the Lounge, _and_ with my connection being fixed, . ^^

Also, my first oh-so-many (about 2,000) posts were less than something to take pride in, so I don't think that I'd want them associated with me. Hell, if all goes well, everyone but the people I talk to on YIM will know that omega is/was me... :D

EDIT: Said something in a way that the meaning could be misinterpreted...

So then you have an actual reason not to change. Omega has no relevance to me, other than being what I originally intended to call the now defunct Project Epsilon.

I took it down, yes. I'm taking the leet translator, tutorial, and 'social classes' pages and putting them on my blog, tho. (The leet pages earned a lot of hits, and I liked them, and taking down the social classes page would make it seem like I was giving into those hate mails I received concerning them.) Don't worry. Really? You know I'm a tinsmith (don't ask.) I got a few pair of hand sheers ('bout a foot long, made of steel, used to cut sheet metal, that sort of thing.) Pair of bench sheers (hand sheers on steriods). Some candle-stake molds (long, pointy, conical-shaped cast-iron steaks) scratchawls (steel pencil-type thing, use to carve lines on sheet metal), bunch of sodering-irons, variety of hammers of different shapes and sizes, and a flat stake (unnecessarily large, blunt, flat top-sharp cornered peice of cast iron).

Let's go!

EQ on dial-up wasn't so bad until the Shadows of Luclin expansion. Graphics, AI, and gameplay got better, and the bandwidth needed got bigger. There are so many expansions now it would be useless for me to pick back up. It would take me months to backtrack and get all the new spells and new gear. I'm waiting for EQ2 to be released; I'll start again then. :)

How long do you really think it'd take to land a blow with the things? It's not like I'm wielding some big battle-ax. And the thing is made to cut through sheet-metal. In shears vs. knife, I'd go with shears. Plus, the shears got the whole extended reach thing going on.

Here, I found a pic. Mine's a bit larger, though, and has a sharp point, but it gives you and idea:

Yes, but they're a few hundred times heavier and probably more clumsy to handle than a knife.

(1)I've found human flesh to be easier to cut than sheet metal :p
(2)I could stab you as fast with the sheers as you could stab me.
(3)Because of #2, and the length of them, I don't have to be as close => I live. :p
(4)I don't get what you mean, they're clumsier. They're not at all difficult to handle. They're actually nicely balanced, and pretty easy to manipulate. If they weren't, how would I be able to cut out anything?

Paul Jr
08-28-2004, 10:41 PM

No, I doubt you could.
So? I know I could easily out-maneuver you.
I said probably. I've never held a pair of 50 pound bench sheers, so I couldn't say for sure. They may be nicely balanced, but they are still a lot heavier than my blade.

08-28-2004, 10:46 PM
They're not any heavier to the point where it makes much of a difference. I just don't see how they'd slow me down any. Obviously, I can't flick it like a pocket knife; probably similar to a sword then.

Yes, actually you would -- and we aren't two teenaged nerds catfighting -- and I find it offensive that you used the numeral 2 in place of the actual word. Harrison may have suggested it, but you went along with it, so that makes you just as guilty as if you had suggested it yourself! I CONDEM THEE! No, I wouldn't, 'cuz I already would have. Sorry. Two nerds cyber catfighting, and I was using 2 to refer to the number two, so why get biatchy?

Well, I'm condemned so I'll let you and Bob get back to your round of cybering. Have fun.

There are 2 cars. <== This is gramatically incorrect.

There are two cars. <== This is correct. So? It's not like I used it as a sub for 'to' or 'too.'

I could barely tolerate the gay RPG talk, but argueing over who's got the best weapon is just too much.

Oh and don't call me Harrison, either David, lava, Dave or lavalamp please.

And if after that you call me please then you are even gayer than the people who say "teh".

I just thought of something, Mr. Bob, Sir -- I have a nice Martin Jaguar sitting upstairs in my room; I can put an arrow right in your head at about 50 yards. Now who's got the longer reach? Huh? Huh? :D
