I have an opinion question for the experts. I currently use a hidden file which contains many functions written in javascript. Frames are then set up. There is at top bar, bottom bar, and informational section. The top bar changes and updates pages, and topic information. The bottom bar has navigational buttons on it. They are forward, back, menu, feedback, help, exit, more information.

The functions are used to branch to different levels within the modules of information that is set up.

My question is. Since it is all written in JavaScript and html, should it be rewritten, updated somehow? I was told it would "choke" later on down the road. It now works in Netscape and IE. Why would it choke, and what is the best method of updating it?

Any suggestions or opinions?
Thanks for your input. Diane

It will not "choke" later on down the road, but rather choke earlier on down the road... people who do not update their browsers may have old browsers that can't render your JavaScript. Also, some people disable JS alltogether.

It is a rather 'contolled' environment. We are required to develop to certain standards. Right now the standard is netscape 4.77 and IE 5.0. Our work has to run on Unix in Netscape also. We will soon have to develop for netscape 7.02 and Mozilla 1.6.

We tell the user they must have JavaScript enabled to take the course.

The person who said it would choke was refferring to future browsers.

Thank you for your input. It had me very concerned. I can understand it has its limits, but choking was a little extreme!

I appreciate your time.
