Adding sound files to web page

Hi everyone. Please could any one give me some tried and tested advice regarding HOW to add the option for a site visitor to listen to some of my client's music recordings. I have his cd and have already have the tracks as rm, wmp and mp3 on my computer but unsure of what to do next. I know creating a hyperlink to the file works(although not sure if that's the way to do it???) but depending on user's internet connection can take some time etc which I am sure must be frustrating. Obviously I want to make the experience as quick and as easy as possible for people so would appreciate knowing which way to go.
