I need some computer suggestions, I do asp.net programming and some flash designing too. I got my own grafic card for 2 monitors i dont need to change that, but i dont want to build my own either. Im up to all suggestions. And the important thing the price should'nt go over 1500 i guess. thanks all

This would be better suited for the coffee lounge.

Personally I think you should build your own. Its great! Not only can you save a lot of dough, but you learn a whole heck of a lot in the process. You can build a decent gameing quality pc for under 500 bucks.

is the ram on that dual channel?

If I buy anything more in the future I would save up for a motherboard with dual channel and pci express.

Intel Pentium 4 northwood with 512 l2 cache, 800mhz fsb, 2.6ghg, running stock at the moment, dynamic oc maxes at 3300mhz.

512mb of kingston pc3200 with a cas latency of 2.

motherboard is an msi 848 neo-v. Its on the intel 848 chipset and has onboard SATA.

Video is a nvidea - gainward ti4200 with 128mb of ram.

Hey sorry replying really late.
I didnt get the automatic emails.

I cant build my own i dont have that time and privilege, I have to buy something from dell, Hp , toshiba and so on.. and like i said it cat go over 1500. I dont like Amd, i always had problems with it. I actually have my own grafic card that i can use, bouth it for dual monitor work (best for programming). But im not sure if it ruin the waranty. I dont know which way i should go, but my company wont go for building thats what im sure of.

You know a good HSF my cpu is kinda WARM yes yes and no for amd, but I would go with anything copper and thermal take if you want real cool. Xeon games great. Clock speed isnt as high but the cache is insane. Ht is great, I do have that.

memory, around 1g i guess
I have a grafic card
what else ?

Ahhh this is going to be great. I need help deciding these, thanks for the help.

Hit them up for a new video card too. You have a bit of a budget so we will not get an x800 or 6800, but you can get a pretty decent motherboard. I will make you a wish list. I still think amd is great if you are running on a very tight budget, but you are not.

Here is my suggestion for a decent work station / server.

http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishList.asp?position=HISTORY&submit=VIEW&ID=963003

It is running dual xeon so it is pricy, but under 1500 bucks. If you need to bring the price down you can move down to p4 or move to amd. If you end up getting a premade system do not get anything with itanium2, I hear it is a huge pain in the butt, its not x86....

Crap I screwed up the wish list. Brb.

opteron is good for servers because it is x86-64 so if you want to do 64bit aps on a server you can. To run 64bit from intel you have to use itanium2 and itanium2 is crap from what I hear, its not even x86 which makes it a real pain to put up with from what I have read. One source said that it is x86 with all of the best features removed. Xeon has opteron beat on cache, xeon can have up to 4mb of l3 cache and 1mb of l2. I think opteron can only boast 1mb of l2, but I am not sure. But I think to have that high l3 cache on xeon you have to have 512 l2 cache, but it should still perform insanely.

Hey, im still trying to decide a motherboard so i can deside the cpu too. does any one know any thing about this new one. It looks like it has a bunch of new stuff in it?
ASUS "P5GD2 Premium" 915P Chipset Motherboard For Intel LGA 775 CPU -RETAIL
what are the differences about these chipset anyway? and the cpu's they like 3 4 different type of cpu branch's xeon ht, p4, p4th extreme...... im getting really confused.

http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket775/p5gd2-p/overview.htm

The system model I linked in this thread uses a pretty good motherboard for dual xeon.

I do not like that motherboard you linked too much, its okay I guess, but I would like to see more room for expantion on it. I am sort of loyal to msi boards myself, I buy from them before others. But that is just a personal quirk.

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=915P_Neo2_Platinum&class=mb the msi equiv to the asus you listed

This is a good board, its not ddr2 or pci express, but its still a good board, gives you a lot more proc flexibility

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=925X_Neo_Platinum-54g&class=mb

I probably provided no useful info in this post, I just like to promote my brand :p

Hey i found this link it's kinda usefull to understand the chipsets.
http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/linecard.htm
900 series looks much better for later on upgrades.

PeOfEo
09-14-2004, 04:11 PM
well the 900s are the newer ones. I am on an 848 right now and I support p4 northwood with 533fsb and 800mhz fsb, and prescott with 533 and 800, and ht. But you can see mine is not even on that list.

At last i got a configuration ready, BUT I HAVE PROBLEMS, The mother board is it the right one, will it support the cpu memory .
http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=986473

PeOfEo
10-04-2004, 09:26 PM
Well the first problem I see is the motherboard supports dual xeon with a 533mhz front side bus. The xeon you picked have an 800mhz front side bus. Drop it down to 533 if you want to keep that motherboard, or pick a motherboard that supports 800mhz front side bus. Another thing I do not like about the motherboard is its lack of ht support. If you bought a xeon with ht you would not be able to use the ht. I mean the processor would still be nice, but that is an extra feature that you can never use. The ram will work with the motherboard just fine.

supermicro has a lot of good xeon boards, I used them in my fantasy pc. The only issue with super micro is their boards are mainly pci-x and many have ddr2. You have an agp card.

I have a pci ati radeon dual output card. Thats why im not getting a new one. The problem is i never heard about these mother boards, thats why i was choosing from gigabyte or asus, is supermicro good, and realized they are few hundred more expensive.( NP, ill lower the cpu, thats the only thing i can i guess) and what about the power and the case are they good enough? thanks for the help by the way. i know im been a pain.
