Ever since I installed Windows XP..my scanner does not function correctly.

I attempted to scan a image into Fireworks..the scanner doohickey traverses like it is supposed to yet instead of getting my preview image..all I get is a big black square.

The Device Manager does not report any problems yet the comput doesn't recognize it as being powered up..it shows the icon on the taskbar but with a line through it.

SO..I uninstalled and reinstalled it but this has not solved the issue....the fact that the hardware itself functions indicates a different problem.

The scanner directories are where they should be..in the Windows Directory but I am puzzled as to what it is I am overlooking..has anyone ever encountered this and what did you do to correct this?

Please...I really would appreciate a honest answer as I am assembling a business dite for myself and I am really hampered if I cannot use my scanner.

Thanks.

P.S I realize this is not a computer forum but I need some immediate help so...sorry if I am bugging you people.

May want to check the scanner vendor's site to see if there is an updated driver for XP.

I have 2 scanners and I am running Windows XP pro, a musktel (sp) and a SlimScan c3 the SlimScan will not work with XP the Musktel will work with xp pro but it is very slow. I had to load 98 on an older computer and hook it in to the network to use the Slimscan.

It seemed to be a driver conflict, I downloaded all the updates and I still could not get it to work.

Thanks..I will try to see if there are updated drivers..though the Device Manager did not indicate any conflicts..NUTS..that is a real handicap.

Well..there are no updated drivers, that's for sure. So I reinstalled the original drivers but to no avail.

In PS it tells me it cannot "open up TWAIN blah-blah-blah..make sure you have a valid TWAIN source..."

So I check it out..the TWAIN folders are where they are supposed to be..and the folders aren't locked or anything.

So something else is wonky...I tried using the scan wizard and all I get is a black square...the scanner isn't very old really..about 5 years..but I didn't use it much so it cannot be burned out.

The lamp is on and functioning.....I hope I do not have to get a new scanner!

You say "scan wizard". Is that an old Microtek you're running? Is it a SCSI scanner? If so you don't need a new scanner you need a better OS or an older version of Windows. In the end I had to ditch my scanner because there were no drivers for it beyond Win98 except for Linux.

It is a USB scanner...and no..I had to use the Scan Wizard because the regular program doesn't work!
First off..the computer claims it cannot find the scanner even though I activated it through the wizard. It even claims it cannot open the TWAIN source and asks to make sure I have a valid TWAIN source in the WINDOWS directory..which I do..the folders are there too.

What I had done was to totally uninstall the scanner drivers and its accompanying programs..remove the scanner from the Device Manager then restart the comp and let Windows XP take over...still no go.

you need a better OS

I have Windows XP Professional
