Thanks sharkey 09-15-2004, 06:03 AM Add a doctype declaration, lose tables and use css plus use css to handle all of the presentation of the page. Use semantic meaningful mark-up. Hope that helps. Alex_Yuruts 09-15-2004, 08:55 AM Hi! the idea of the site is great! But realisation :( ... First of all it`s almost unreadable and the quality of logo is not so great. It looks like back to the past, it looks too amateur. Sorry if I disappointed you. :) I just have a terrible day... Good luck! P.S. and where is the search form? You need it on your site! koffee2 09-18-2004, 06:53 PM Hello ! Thx for the feedback. Keep sending them out :-) http://www.koffee-break.com Booooze 09-18-2004, 09:41 PM a search form would be nice. chnage your banner a bit. but other than that i think it looks ok. maybe a little more "jazz" to it. and i couldnt help notice, 55% say bush, 42% say Kerry, that doesnt add to 100%.:p dera 09-18-2004, 10:33 PM in my opinion yes thts my lil opinion i hate the sites look im not reviewing the content or the way the coding is done but please, change the site this is soo old skool design change the colour combinations stop using dark blue and silver with white backround sorry if i sound mean but im just expressing my opinion start design again. i guess this site is not my cup of "koffee" koffee2 09-19-2004, 02:09 AM Hello ! Thx for the candid feedback. I definately agree that the design is not good. Thats one thing we are working on. We are hoping to hire a good web design person who can take care of the design. Apart from that, what do you think abt the content? we tried to follow the content heavy approach like craigslist (http://www.craigslist.com) Anyways, Bush-55% and Kerry-42% indeed does not add to 100% :-) Thanks http://www.koffee-break.com rapid 09-19-2004, 04:56 PM Hi, I've only been coding for a few weeks and only know the basics so forgive any stupid comments (I've sure there'll be loads). I don't know a lot about the coding but I can comment on the design. One of the sites I've been working on uses lots of links divided into categories in much the same way as your site. I find it difficult to know how much empty space to use. Too little and all you see is a blur of words, too much and you scroll forever to find what you want. Not sure what I think about the colours. There are clear and simple, which I like, and in a way, similar to a newspaper, which seems to be a lot of what your site is about. On the other hand web sites are not newspapers, and shouldn't be designed like flat shets of paper (in my opinion). Web sites have much more breadth and so much more potential. Your site starts to use some of this potential with all the links, which is good. Perhaps a way to tidy it up and make it more usable would be to have only the top five headlines for each newspaper on display and a "more..." link to other headlines/stories. This would reduce the screen space taken up and as most people only read the same one or few newpapers, they would find the bit they are looking for more quickly. I scrolled down the page and stopped when I saw The Guardian (I'm from Britian). This might make the site look messy, but you could think about colour-coding each newspaper so that users learn what colours the nespapers they like are and then only have to look for the colours, rather than actually reading, which would be quicker for them. Coffee breaks (or Tea breaks if you're from Britain) don't last long so I'd want to be reading the articles as quickly as possible, rather than spending my time scrolling and searching for something to read. I hope my thoughts are useful to you, and when I get around to publishing my site I'll let you know and you can give me your comments. davidbrent 09-19-2004, 05:30 PM Originally posted by sharkey Add a doctype declaration, lose tables and use css plus use css to handle all of the presentation of the page. Use semantic meaningful mark-up. My friend, why do you say "Use semantic meaningful mark-up"? I do not see the logic as semantic basically means meaningful in a sense and only relates to the data/code you are referring to. To say, use meaningful markup is very derogatory and confusing. im not sure the recipient will fully understand the meaning (no pun intended) of your comment. Best Wishes, David murdah 09-20-2004, 02:30 AM it's a great online idea. But you gotta be visual! That's as simple as that! Regarless of you being a forum or not, you gotta impact somehow!!!! VISUAL if possible! murdah koffee2 09-21-2004, 09:35 PM Hello rapid Thanks for the very sensible feedback. The color coding scheme makes sense. Hello Murdah Visual and graphics is what many people have suggested. Probably these go for all the sections. Thanks again koffee2 09-28-2004, 11:50 PM Hello !
