"That oil is at $51 a barrel is no one's fault but our own. For 30 years the danger of depending on oil as the primary energy source has been plain. Yet we've yet to do anything about it. There are provisions and incentives in the President's energy bill but nobody wanted to touch it. We'll, if $50 a barrel isn't incentive enough to get people motivated, how about the prospect of driving one of those little biddy cars from Europe? God save us from an 8 foot long car with no trunk and barely enough room for two with cell phones."
--CNN (Tucker's Two Cents)

Wow!, if that isn't motivation to vote for Kerry, then I don't know what is!

uhhh reliant, president bush is not in control of OPEC. He cannot control the supply demand or price of the oil. OPEC can control the supply, the consumer controls the demand, and the price will fall into place naturally with those two curves at the equilibrium is left untampered with. Blaming bush for the raw cost of oil is stupid. The only president I would blame for screwing up our oil gas prices is Carter when he put in place a price ceiling on oil which prevented gas from reaching its equilibrium price which caused massive shortages.

ps: if you want good gas mileage there is another solution besides a tiny mobile, but its still Euro engineering. Its turbo diesel. Mercedes and Volkswagon have been using it for years now. The Jettas with it get something like 40 to the gallon. But it is diesel and it is really lacking on the acceleration side of things. But take one of those on the freeway, you will love it.

My car has class... and its American iron. A buick lesabre baby. Awww yeah. I am serious, all of my friends love my car and think it is totally sweet and luxurious ;).

Aston Martin makes some nice stuff. I would take them over most other euopean cars. The real problem with european cars relates to parts reliability. European cars are infamous for being a little more complicated (as with some asian cars) yet when they break (because there are so many things that can happen when it is complicated) you cannot get the part for the car and it drives up the repair cost through the roof. American Iron has a repuation for not being the most reliable (but it often is not bad depending ont he car and company because the simpler the thing is the more reliable it tends to be) but the parts are right there. If I tear up my alternater, then tear up the one in a bmw, guess which one is going to cost almost three times as much.

The best cars out there as far as reliability and parts availability go are the Camery and the Accord. Those things have extremly good parts networks and are fairly reliable to begin with. The problem with that is the damn things hold their value. Good luck finding a cheap used camery that does not have over 100k miles on it.

Other then the issue of parts availability (well and high insurance and other costs) european cars are nice. My friend drives an m3 with a massive super charger, it is really freaken fast and handles great (BUT HE JUST PUT 2,000 INTO IT AT THE SHOP BECAUSE HE BLEW SOME SEALS!)

The most promising options out there (feul wise) are the diesel (I certainly agree there) and the hybrids also. To be honest the ideal car for me would be a combo of American, German, and Japanese. No car ages as gracefully as a Japanese car. Til they make one of those I'd settle for a Lincoln Town Car.

Yeah. I was gonna say. What about gas cars (and by that I do mean gas and not petrol. ;) )
