All criticism welcome. davidbrent 10-08-2004, 05:57 AM W3C CSS Validator Results for http://www.freewebs.com/bawbag/style.css -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No error or warning found To work as intended, your CSS style sheet needs a correct document parse tree. This means you should use valid HTML. No style sheet found Well it looks good. But there is no real design, it's just plain and simple. David :o I've fixed the link to validate my new CSS and not my old one. :o Ben Rogers 10-08-2004, 10:23 AM First of all, get rid of that splash page- all it does is delay the user. Second, for a serious site, you may want to consider moving to a new host. Third, why are you using <img />s for the navigation? (as opposed to SIR (http://www.mezzoblue.com/tests/revised-image-replacement/)) Fourth, the look is very bland, and does not seem to be well thought out. Decide on a them already! Graffiti-font for the nav, a clean-looking header, the inverted photo (which is supposed to be attributed to a new-age design) and the bland fonts. It doesn't come together. Also, things seem squished, and unorganized. The borders detract greatly from the look. Overall, it seems so... unproffesional, you know? snzman 10-08-2004, 10:29 AM I think the validator graphics on the bottom of the page detract from the style. Maybe replace them with just text links or something? Ben Rogers 10-08-2004, 10:36 AM Originally posted by snzman I think the validator graphics on the bottom of the page detract from the style. Maybe replace them with just text links or something? I'd like to note they are hidden under the navigation on the news page. Also, it seems you haven't used semantic markup in many places, such as a list should be marked up as a lists (http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_lists.asp). Dopple 10-08-2004, 11:06 AM Cheers....I think :D That's what I was looking for, useful criticism. I've heard about that semantic markup but don't actually know what it is. I'll have a wee read up on it. The Nav images made sense in the last version of the site. but I see what you mean. I didn't really occur to me to change them. I might not even use those validators at all. I mean who, that would be looking up my band, would really care if it's valid xhtml or not. I was just showing off. :o thanks. Dopple 10-08-2004, 11:16 AM What is semantic markup? I can't find anything about it on W3schools. Ben Rogers 10-08-2004, 11:18 AM No problem, of course. Yeah, validation links really belong only on webdev related sites- but if you want, a footer reading "xhtml | css | 508" type thing, with validation never hurts. Those images are just too gaudy. Semantic markup isn't on w3schools. It is simply using tags for what they were meant for. Want a list? Use list markup. Want to divide your page? Use <div>. Want to emphasize text? Use <em>, or <strong>. That's pretty much it. Dopple 10-08-2004, 11:22 AM I did use <div> tags though. Did I use them incorrectly? Ben Rogers 10-08-2004, 11:35 AM Originally posted by Dopple I did use <div> tags though. Did I use them incorrectly? I never said you used them incorrectly. I was merely stating some of the basic ideas of semantics. daed17 10-11-2004, 10:42 PM Get rid of the advertising for your provider... granted it is free but I think you could do better. I would also register your name with godaddy.com or registerfly.com so that you can be a .com If you need any assistance let me know. webdeveloper.com
