Hi,
Just looking for some opinions on my personal site. Things like resolution (I use 800x600), load time, navigation. What do you think is better-tables or maps? I'm just learning how to write html and use photoshop so any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Assuming this (http://www.intergate.com/~zabel/) is your site, I have to say you have a long way to go. Deprecated tags, tables for layout, presentational markup, random JS, unclear design, confusing overall page; you have a link to the w3schools, but it looks like a HTML Goodies site. You can't really be serious, can you? And WTF is up with all of the line breaks? Commenting on it would be like commenting on a crumpled peice of paper.

Please don't exxagerate, what I said wasn't humiliation. I was just saying that it doesn't seem like you put to practice the things you should've learned at W3Schools, which you obviously know about. Also, you don't use CSS, but say you know it. You use incorrect methods, yet you know the correct ones. I did list a number of things that need to be improved upon. As for suggestions? There's nothing really there in terms of design, it'd be like giving suggestions for a blank peice of paper. You really need to clean up your code before you can get a good design down, anyways. Overall, it just seems like a geocities page.

Ben's right on this one.
The maker of that webpage has to learn the basics of how things are done semantically before going on to higher design standards. It's just the way things go.
Ben, though you are right and we all know it, please be a little more kind about it. It's discouraging when someone says things like that about your work. Remember, we want a positive atmosphere here; don't cast a negative one. The majority of reviews focus on the negative, because fixing what is unpleasant is what makes the site better in the end, but there is a kind way to go about it.

I never mean to come off sounding cruel, and when I re-read it at first, it sounds fine to me. Then, of course, a while later I'll re-read it and laugh at how much of an a**hole I was. Ah, well. Zabel- If my bluntness offended you, I apologize.

he did post his site to be reviewed and Ben reviewed it!
I'm not upset with Ben, Chris, I just wanted him to know that it's better to say things more kindly when reviewing. There is nothing wrong with criticising, as long as it's constructive. ;)

I think Ben is just having a bad day. Hahah.
Just joking.
Back on topic, I think that the maker of the webpage has to exhibit proper structural markup first. :| The design needs...um...well...let's not get into that yet.
Actually, let's go into that. The design is very un-uniform...not consistent and has random colours.

ok, first maybe I should clarify my objective. I wanted to make it like an index linking to my 3 separate sites so that's why each page looks different from there. I plan on adding more links to the music & bead pages after I get the basic plan figured out. If anyone has any suggestions for how I can present it that way I'd like to hear them.
I realize I need to make style sheets but still haven't figured out what parts of the page I want to put there so that's one project on my list.
I was asking about the tables... looks like I should make an image map instead eh?
About the line breaks... I don't know how to it any other way, guess that's on the list too.
I was feeling proud of myself to have just learned about getting stuff verified. It took me a week to do that.
I'm just asking for advice... any good ideas on the design are welcome.
