Yeah so I quit my job at CVS today, because I got a job Finish Line (http://finishline.com). I make 25 cents more an hour + I get a 30% discount on sneakers. w00t.

I get a 10% discount on all tools and electronics, 20% on all clothing, and lotsa free coupons. + I know when all the sales are. I got a pair of levis for $4... long pants, relaxed fit for 4 bucks! I make between 8 and 9 an hour depending on how many credit apps I get. I might move to the electronics department though and work for commission soon.

Hehe, these shoes have been worn for around a year and a half, through a maine winter, a flood and many other things :D They are so awesome, they have holes in them, both have holes on the insides of them, around 7cm long each. Nice pair of New Balances... Ya... best shoe in the world. Oh btw... Thats my only pair. I dont know how people can own more then 2 pairs, its rediculous. It also makes me laugh when i see people wash dirt off their shoes. Seriously, they are on your feet for a reason! If you dont want them to look dirty, get black shoes! :p Good thing these things have a few more months on 'em :D ;) :)

MstrBob
10-15-2004, 07:16 PM
Oh yeah, New Balance are the best. The sneakers are more comfortable than any others I've worn (They were recommended by an orthopedist). I started off with a black pair, and wore them till they were so raggedy I deemed a new pair necessary. So what did I get? The same pair of black New Balance.

Neczy
10-15-2004, 07:36 PM
Yep! Thats the way i am too! I always get that blue pair, or a black pair, whichever is in stock :D. And yep, I had ingrown toe nail surgery on both my feet a few years back and they recommended New Balance. Havent worn anything else since.

It’s not so much that you are different, it’s that your fashion sense is, to be brutally honest, nonexistant — on vaction, on break, at lunch, six feet under — I think you know what I mean.

MstrBob

I am against but only two things. Bright colours, and multitudes of shoes. Why? What is the point? You take the shoes and put them on your feet. They are merely to protect your feet. You want odd shoes, get odd shoes. In my mind, a person should have no more than 3 pairs of shoes. Dress shoes, semi-casual shoes, and a good pair of sneakers/converse. One needs more shoes, why? How many people walk around staring at feet? I think Conor is just over obsessed with his self image. Which leads me to think he's not comfortable with himself. Which may be the result of a troubled childhood. So, indeed, it's not Conor's fault that he's obsessed with his appearance, but rather, his enviroments fault. He's simply a product of his surroundings, as are we all. Back to the caves!

But on a lighter note, I dislike white sneakers, because shoes get dirty. And with white, it's obvious. With grey, you can get away with it, black you see nothing. Or maybe I'm just attracted to darker colours...

Conor
10-15-2004, 10:10 PM
I respect your opinion but I dont see why you cant respect mine. I have no probelms with my image and I am not uncomfortable with myself in the least and your an ass to think I came from a troubled childhood. Hey Bob I dislike 2 things. Dark colors and shoes that dont match what your wearing. We obviously have been brought up in different enviroments and like different things and guess what I'm not the only one so stop assuming pure made up crap.

.
Maybe I can keep my shoes clean :O

I agree with you bob! Thats exactly how I think! And to answer your question Conor, get a pair of black sneakers, or white, or grey (ewww) and then it matches everything. Or be like me and wear the basic same types of clothes every day. T-Shirt, Khaki Pants/Cargo Shorts, Sneakers, and maybe a hoody.

Dude, chill, I was joking around, bien? As, I think, we all are.

Dark colours are better, because bright colours are too... harsh. They're all in your face. But darker colours are more mellow... for mellower people. My shoes match, because generally, I'm wearing darker clothes. I do not dress gothic, but I like darker colours. Meh. If you lived in the city, you'd be a Metrosexual. :p :D

I would clean my shoes, but, well, yeah. They're shoes. I've consented to the fact that they'll be dirty from constant contact with Mother Earth.

Back to the caves!

The only people who worry that their shoes match the rest of their attire are girls… which supports my theory that Conor is actually a girl. :D I have one pair of shoes — one — and I get along fine. Depending on where you live and what you do, you only need three shoes at the most: dress shoes, work shoes, and every-day/casual shoes. Anyone who has over 15 shoes needs help, especially if that person is a teenage boy.

P.S.: I took the liberty of correcting a few mistakes in Conor’s post. :D

No. There is no debate. Conor is a preppy. I, on the other hand, despite Ben's delusional fantasies, am not gothic. "Gothics" are just lazy morons who think they're "individuals" (yet the are "gothics", and thus a part of a social class, and therefore not individuals, and therefore stereotype themselves so I don't have to) and dress in dark clothing, think they have terrible lives, and listen to bad music. I hate gothics, too.

lol

CVS: Customer Value Stores. A chain of drug stores started in the mid 70's current with few thousand stores mostly in the northeast.

Preppy: Generally refers to the style of clothing you would find worn by students of Harvard, Yale, and Oxford. Though preps are not always rich or white, it refers to a style of the young white upperclass.

Let's see. Do you have 18 pairs of shoes? Do you wear pink shirts? Do you think that "normal" is defined by Pop Culture? Do you worry about your shoes matching the rest of your attire? If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, then I will start making fun of you.

my casual shoes are All Star Converses

davidbrent
10-16-2004, 03:37 PM
I do not wear pink but i do take care of my presentation. i dress smartly even smartly casual. i feel better dressed up smartly rather than holey Y fronts (jocks? americano?) and a greasy string vest. that is not to say how you dress.

i prefer smart because in modern day society you do generally get treated more proffesionally and with more respect if you have the smart and professional look. i have at times simply worn all black and there is nothing wrong with it.

My idea of a casual going to the cinema kind of attire = Dark blueish / faded / straight, jeans. a dark long sleeved tshirt either blank or a small form of logo or caption or short sleeved tshirt with a comical slogan on the front. i always keep my hair clean and smart and i shave every day. I take showers on average 1 a day.

Smart Evening Meal attire = black smart trousers or dark jeans no holes or worn bits. Shirt long sleeved or short sleeved depends on the weather. plenty or aftershave, and hair styled using "Flubber".

Smart smart work clothes = Black / Blue / Brown single breast suit jacket and trousers. plain shirt generally blue or white. A basic tie with not too busy.

I prefer myself that way as like i said it reflects my personality and people are more likely to judge me positively.

i think goths can look good when nuts and bolts are timedly used. i think punks and rockers can look good and when i went to Leeds Festival 2004 i dressed the same. I think overly smart people can dress well also. However, one guy at a The Ataris gig was wearing a double breasted suit. He didn't fit in well shall we say.

Am i abnormal?

Depends on what you mean by matching. My shoes are black with white stripes, so I would so they go with my jeans and navy hoodie. However, they are not the same color.

Go ahead.

I have no problem with dressing smartly. I think one should dress well. However, when you're a teenage kid and you have 18 pairs of shoes to make sure they match whatever you wear, then I think there's a problem.

Conor
10-16-2004, 03:57 PM
go ahead and call it a "problem" paul but what I've read about what you did is much worse then owning 18 pairs of shoes. I dont have shoes to match everything anway, I dont have pink shoes, I would never wear pink shoes, when I wear my pink shirt , I usually where a pair of white shoes with a light blue check to accent the light blue stripe in the shirt.

i have a friend who is very fashionally driven. he buys top notch goods from top notch high street brands. i like my labels and i do buy the standard stuff like FCUK, Diesel, Levis, GAP, Calven Klein, River Island, Von Dutch, to name a few but my friend really will not go out unless he is in pristine order.

I could say he is a bit like Conor and i am not saying thats a bad thing. Some people are just like that, my friend is still a very good friend regardless of his obsessive taste.

My God... what is it with you people? Why do you think you must wear the brand names? Clothes are clothes, regardless of whether they say "GAP" on them or not. That just goes to show that you're all preppy, shallow, insecure people... I hate preppies.

Neczy

Yeh... I wear whatever I buy... If I like the shirt or whatever Ill buy it. Infact, I dont like brand names because of all the logos on em.

MstrBob
10-17-2004, 01:40 PM
I don't like being a walking advertisment for clothes companies. The only time I wear cloths with any type of logos on them, are when I wear one of my band shirts. For instance, my favourite Ramones t-shirt. And that's because I like to show my bands. But those people with the huge Nike checkmarks on the front of their hoodies, or Gap or what have you. I don't get it. It'd be like driving a car, and having in huge letters, the car manufacturer's name along the side.

davidbrent
10-17-2004, 03:23 PM
I did not imply that i was obsessed with branding. I merely go for quality and in experience i have found that generally decent brand clothes have better quality than the unbranded. that is not to say they don't rip you off with the brand name/logo.

as for band t-shirts i have many from RHCP tours Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Razor Light, The libertines... i too like to boast my support for these bands.

the best thing is when you are at a formal do. and you are wearing a tie instead of a bow-tie. take about 5/6 different clip ons and keep changing them randomly during the night. that way you always look different to the other guests and they start thinking they are going mad!
