Hi,
I am fairly new at web publishing and have run into something I don't how to solve because I'm not sure of the problem.

I am hoping someone here will know what's happening. Any help will be much appreciated.

Originally, I created my web store using Netscape. When I switched to Frontpage, my sales dropped to almost nothing.
In searching for potential problems, I ran across a site where the info led me to think the Frontpage program mixed Netscape coding in with the Frontpage, making my site "not valid" so search engines won't index it.

My question is this. Is it possible that search engines will find my site "unsearchable" because of the old coding (coding errors)? If so, what is the quickest way to fix this?

Should I rebuild the site completely, using FrontPage? Should I take an HTML course? What do you think would be the fastest way to make my site "search engine friendlier", without having to pay out thousands of dollars to an expert?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Zara

I am rebuilding the index page right now on Frontpage. The HTML is very different and it seems that a lot of code has been left out. I can imagine that the search engines wouldn't read the old one. What a mess.

Thanks,

Actually, Front Page adds code when it doesn't need to. When it's not 1:30am, I'll weed through your code and see about getting rid of the numerous errors you have. You have around 300 lines of code. I wonder if I can drop it down to something like 200. This could be fun to try,

I tried to post this once before and it didn't work. Hope it works this time.

I appreciate your offer to look at my code. If you really want to punish yourself, you can do it before I clean it up a bit with Frontpage.
I am currently rebuilding my index page from scratch, using Frontpage and not importing any HTML from anywhere. It already looks WAY cleaner and has cut out a lot of code. Wanna wait until I'm done?

Thanks for the help.
It's really fun to learn this stuff. I wish I had more time. My business takes so much of it; I really need to be two or three people to keep up with all that I need to do and learn to optimize my business.

Thanks again,
Zara

Well I was kind of redoing some of the design aspects of it because I thought that could have been done better too. Anyway, I did validate based on HTML 4.01 Strict and I came across 200 errors. When I last left it I had it down to just over 100. If you want to finish off you code and then post it, go for it. I'm interested in seeing what you did in terms of changes regardless of what I do. It's not like what I do has to be taken seriously. :)
