I have coded using both frames and CSS layouts, and I must admit Frames are far easier to code. Especially if you have navigation concerns. Frames allows you to have a navigation bar that stays put, while letting the content of the target page scroll on its own. It also cuts down on bandwidth; rather than loading your navigation bar every time you change a page, you only load it once. By far the best part of frames is it causes web purists to turn every colour of rage, grief, shock, offence, and all such emotions they feel when they view a page using outdated technology. (This can also be achieved by saying the page looks best in Internet Explorer.) After all, a thorough shock to the system is good for the health, it lets one know he/she/it is alive. (It's alive... It's alive... Oh, God, IT'S ALIVE!!!) *Sees everyone staring at him.* Hey, I am a Framesets proponent, do not expect me to be entirely sane. Ahem. True, Framesets do have a couple minor shortcomings, mostly problems with bookmarking and search engines, but who the heck actually uses those? :D *Goes back to trying to make his <blink> tag work in IE.* dera 11-02-2004, 06:32 AM 99% of the websites i review on the forum which use/d frames use them incorrectly well there is no correct, or incorrect but used them in a way which annoys me Paul Jr 11-03-2004, 12:14 AM Originally posted by Mr Initial Man What, precisely, are wrong with frames? I think they look ugly, tacky, and unprofessional -- not to mention that it makes bookmarking impossible! Then there's that thing of having your mouse inside the frame to be able to scroll it... and frankly, I like the whole page to scroll. PeOfEo 11-03-2004, 12:26 AM frames have a tendancy to be inaccessible as well, unless extra precations are taken. They also tend to annoy the user when his back button and book marks get screwed up. Mr Initial Man 11-03-2004, 04:05 AM You realize I was joking, I hope. I still think Framesets are easier to code (extra pages and all) but CSS DOES work better in a lot of other ways. I know, I'm highly unusual on this forum in that framesets do not send me into a frothing fury. In fact, I quite like them, and probably always will. webdeveloper.com
