Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : people what is your favorite java script or tutorial website scottec 02-25-2003, 02:13 PM help me make a list of good help ful web sites please i want tutorials and script librarys for java dabush 02-25-2003, 02:21 PM JavaScript: http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/programming/javascript/ Do the first 2 turorials (JavaScritp Tutorial & Advanced JavaScript Tutorial) both by Thau, the greatest! Charles 02-25-2003, 02:38 PM I just took a quick look at the fitst two lessons of Thau's first tutorial and I found one minor and two major errors. I remain convinced that there is no decent JavaScript tutorial out there. scottec 02-25-2003, 02:47 PM Charels thats what i think but hopefully i will be able to make a good list here Web Monkey (http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/programming/javascript) Web Teacher (http://www.webteacher.com/javascript/ch01_6.html) JavaScript Reference (http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/js/client/jsref/contents.htm) Javascript Basics (http://www.jsmadeeasy.com/) irt (http://irt.org/) programming turorials (looks good) (http://programmingtutorials.com/main.asp) programmers haven (http://programmersheaven.com/) Jona 02-25-2003, 08:30 PM http://irt.org/ is pretty good. http://htmlgoodies.com/ ... ahh, where it all started for me... http://programmingtutorials.com/ http://programmersheaven.com/ Charles 02-26-2003, 05:07 AM Again, the first and fourth in that list are bad, the second is very bad and the third is a list of other tutorials. There are no good tutorials. And even if there were, you cannot learn JavaScript that way. See the thread http://forums.webdeveloper.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4863. Though to be fair he does also say that a book is the best thing to use and suggests JavaScript : The Definitive Guide by David Flanagan, which you yourself also suggested. IxxI mikehd 02-26-2003, 09:07 AM Got some good stuff here: http://www.jsmadeeasy.com/ scottec 02-26-2003, 11:19 AM thanks people ime going to up date my list now Charles 02-26-2003, 11:27 AM Originally posted by IxxI Though to be fair he does also say that a book is the best thing to use and suggests JavaScript : The Definitive Guide by David Flanagan, which you yourself also suggested. IxxI It is clear from the tutorials, though, that Thau hasn't bothered to read the book. scottec 02-26-2003, 11:44 AM thanks people ime going to up date my list now Jona 02-26-2003, 07:45 PM Charles, in what exact area do you find errors in my list of sites? I know programmersheaven.com is mainly a portal site, but I think that it's useful since it's mainly a site of links, too (or links to programs). Programmingtutorials.com is, as you said, a link to sites as well. HTMLGoodies.com, I have found many errors in, however I've learned a great deal from that site. Are you referring to the fact that the site's information is not W3C standard and not compliant with all browsers, versions, and operating systems? Or are you simply referring to the fact that none of the Javascript code provided at these sites works? IxxI 02-27-2003, 06:56 AM Originally posted by Charles It is clear from the tutorials, though, that Thau hasn't bothered to read the book. Fair enough - I haven't either so I wouldn't know. However, I am trying to obtain a copy from my library to read, so don't worry!! IxxI Jona 02-27-2003, 11:35 AM IxxI, are you saying your library actually has books on programming!? Wow! My library has thousands of books, but they're all kids books! In the adult section, they're all about science and stuff. What category do you look in for Javascript books? IxxI 02-28-2003, 07:51 AM It does have books on programming, but not very many. But if you go in with a book's title, author and ISBN number, they can get it for me. So I do that a lot to get all the programming books I want! IxxI Jona 03-01-2003, 07:33 PM My library doesn't have any computer books. None whatsoever. I need to do what you did. Thanks for the idea! webdeveloper.com
