hello, i just upgraded to a cable modem connection from a dialup connection. I want to share this connection with another computer at home . Can some one give me links to where i can get detailed guides about this . I'm new to networking.
I woould also like to mention here that tha modem i'm using uses a nic to connect to my computer and i will be using ordinary eathernet using cables to make a network.
I am using windows xp professional on both computers. I also want to assign rights and define policies to my second computer to limit its use .
Any kind of help will be greatly appretiated.

You can start right from windows in your own computer. Start/Help. Then "Connecting to Networks". From there you can do a search on the internet about the subject

i dont have any links but before you get help decide if you want to run the network off one main computer or off a lan. networking through a computer would require that computer to be on for any other computer to use the cable modem, but it could be done with free software. a lan cost $40 or $80 or something but allows any computer on anytime, and has other benifits as well. when i went looking for help on the web the sites usually assumed either the one setup or the other, and confused me
