Hello

Yesterday I just powered up my new computer which I constructed myself.

Everything is working well except my floppy drive (the 1.44 megabyte one) is always on and doesn't recognize a disk when inserted.

The drive is plugged directly into the motherboard as the manual instructs....however I wonder if it shouldn't be plugged into the Zip drive or something.

I cannot plug it into the Hard Drive and I am out of ideas..can anyone please lend a spot of help?

Thanks

Is the plug the right way round and is the floppy detected in the bios?

Hi,
If you have a green light on the floppy at boot and it stays lit it is due to the floppy ribbon cable being either faulty or plugged in the wrong way round. Very rarely it can also be a power issue and/or faulty floppy.

Do this first. The standard for floppies is that pin 1 is located in the top left (when looking from the rear and right way up). The cable will have a white or red stripe make sure that is on the left.

The floppy connector on the M/board could be located anywhere check your manual to see where pin 1 is an ensure cable strip is fitted accordingly.

Hey! It worked....thanks!

Y'know..I hooked it up the way the manual stated but it never indicated which side the little stripe should be on...at any rate I really appreciate the help. :D
