I am considering purchasing a Flash Drive however I am encountering many terms in reference to these drives.

Some of which are:

Flash Drives (of course)

Jump Drives

Thumb Drives

Pen Drives

I am having a difficult time deciphering a difference
between these terms.

Could anyone help me out and tell me what the difference, if any, is between these terms? I don't want to end up getting something I cannot use.

Thanks a bunch.

As far as I'm aware they're all different manufacturers trademarks/terms for the same thing.

Well..I did it! I just went on the site ZipZoomFly and ordered two 512 Kingmax brand Flash drives....one for my computer and one for my fathers.

Actually, it was my neighbor who gave the final incentive to get one when we explained to him about my fathers Zip Drive failing..or more precisely, failed to function from day one...our friend showed us his Flash Drive, plugged it into one of our computers and right away the computer recognized it...no drivers whatsoever.

Pretty cool in my book! ;)

So either this weekend or the early part of next week I should get it..

I originally was thinking of a new Zip Drive..one of the 750 Mb ones but they are about $150 and the disks aren't cheap..so a Flash Drive is just what I need to free up other system resources...not that I am exactly running low but...one less mechanical drive to worry about anyways. :D :D :D

If you want to backup files maybe you should just consider getting another hard drive. Just drop in a second hard drive and boom, there you have it, a large space for you to keep extra junk.

Yes..I could just add another hard drive but then that means more pain-in-the-a** ribbon cables, drivers and formating.

I will be happy with my flash drive.

You can format the new drive from windows, and all you have to do is plug the drive in to the secondary slot on the ide cable. Its very easy. The drive is most likely set as cable select by default so thats all you have to do. You can even buy a usb hard drive and just move files to that. It is a pain to move all of your files to one, (my mp3 player doubles as an external usb hard drive, ttransfer times kinda sucks, even though its usb 2), but you just plug it into the usb, and your set.
