Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Please review my site.... tmcraig 12-03-2004, 09:56 AM Can experience developers please review my site.... http://www.seniormensleague.com Thanks in Advance, tmcraig soccer362001 12-03-2004, 01:11 PM It looks good, one thing I would do is change the layout from tables to divs, and you also have a JavaScript error. rapid 12-03-2004, 01:12 PM needs a doctype (http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html), and to be checked for validation (http://validator.w3.org/). i like the small text above the header describing the website, its a really effective way to tell visitors what the site is about. the header looks good as does the title text. but title links to the home page, which is actually the news page which doesnt have a link in the navigation menu. its confusing and inconsistent. the navigation menu, as the main means of navigating the site, should have links to all the other pages. the header/title link should be in addition to the main menu to give visitors a surefire way of getting back to familiar ground if they get lost in the site. id suggest making your home page into a news page and creating a proper home page. then add home and news to the navigation. navigation menu uses table layout (http://www.hotdesign.com/seybold/), get rid of it and use .css (http://www.glish.com/css/) like the rest of the layout. the links in the navigation menu should be disabled for the page that the visitor is already on the prevent them accidentally reloading the page, wasting their time and annoying them. being coded as a table means that the entire cell is active as the link, which is good as it improves usability (http://developer.kde.org/documentation/design/ui/fittslaw.html), but visually there is nothing to indicate this to the visitor. they would probably be better as buttons. the news enteries such as the history of soccer entry open a popup without telling the visitor that they are going to and the popup offers a link to amazon but again doesnt tell the visitor where they are going. this kind of magical mystery tour of blind linking might be followed out of curiosity but it can also annoy visitors when they finally end up at amazon when they might have been expecting to read an interesting article. keep your visitors informed about where you are taking them and what they can expect when they get there, itll make for much happier visitors. and considering the amount of text in the popups you might as well of put the entire entry and link on the news/home page. seems to be an over-complicated way of doing it, id suggest keeping it simple. the poll is a nice touch, always good to involve vistors and get their input, but the question seems to only make sense to those involved in the mens senior league, us outsiders havent a clue what it means. id suggest either rephrasing the question or asking more general questions. not sure about the coloring of the scroll bars. apart from the css youve used not being valid they are too bright and jump off the screen too much. the visitor doesnt have that much scrolling to do so they dont need to be shown the scroll bars that forcefully. perhaps a subtler color or leaving the scrollbars alone. you warn visitors that the constitution is a pdf but dont tell them about the minutes. be consistent, and especially as the minutes are before the constitution on the menu. all subpages are nicely organised and clearly laid out. links page divides links into categories to help vivistors understand where they are going, which is excellent. forum page loses main navigation menu and only links to the other pages by going back to the home page. maintain usability be ensuring 'linkability'. make sure every page can be reached from every other page. either include the navigation menu or at least put links to the other pages across the top with the link to the home page. tmcraig 12-03-2004, 01:39 PM thanks Rapid for your excellent feedback and review...most feedback that I get is from the soccer community that uses the site and their feedback consists of "I like it" so it is nice to get such an indepth review.
