Hi all. I'm just getting started learning perl. I'm thinking of buying two books -- "Beginning Perl" by Simon Cozens, and "Perl and CGI for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide, Second Edition" by Elizabeth Castro. My question is about the Castro book. Will she lead me down the right path in terms of finding safe pre-written scripts? Based on what I read in the sticky on this forum, it seems that the nms scripts are the way to go. Even Matt says so! I'm wondering if Castro is from a different school of thought on this. Also does her book encourage the use of CGI.pm? That also seems to me to be important. I learned HTML entirely from a Castro book, and like her style a lot, so I'm motivated to buy her Perl book, but I wanted to check with a few experts here.

Castro's book does, in fact, follow good Perl programming practices. She encourages use of the CGI module, strict program interpretation and enables warnings of potential problems as well as security checks.

So yes, this book would seem to do a good job of easing you into the language.
