This is my first website and I taught myself how to use Go-Live. andyshep 12-16-2004, 10:17 AM Your meta tags are useless in a page with so many errors. take a look at http://validator.w3.org/ and enter your site in the validator. read and weep a search engine will reject a page with so many errors. my advise to you is to learn html using a notepad, its not hard. and bin golive. the tree 12-16-2004, 10:29 AM Code Well andy shep has said what needs to be said from a technical point of view so I'll leaf that out. (I am soooo not funny) Actualy, come to think of it andy sheep didn't mention that tables are not for layout (http://www.hotdesign.com/seybold/), take note of that. Asthetics I would advise that you do not have a red header with that green background. I would also have a lighter background collom in the middle, to put your content in, that way the viewers eyes are both less strained and drawn in at the same time. Look at The Names Dan (http://thenamesdan.com) and think that but instead of burgandy and white, dark green and soft light green respectivley. Having said that please please please do not make the mistake of using bright or neon green as a background, that will not make you popular. Your links really ought not to be blue underlined, if you go for the sugestion above then I'd say dark green and only underline on hover. cogumelo 12-16-2004, 10:42 AM just something else... the image on the homepage is almost 70K, not everyone has fast connections yet, so consider reducing the image size. tbailey1027 12-16-2004, 03:08 PM Ignore the comment about "binning GoLive" I don't use it personally, but it is a good tool. Also, forget the CSS?TABLES argument - it means nothing. What you should work on is your color schemes and image optimization. CSS is the only solution for aesthetics- tables were meant for way back when it didn't exist, a grid for designers. Now, we can improve, move forward, a few steps toward an ideal web environment, one that everyone can access. You think that that means nothing? ilya 12-16-2004, 05:33 PM well first of all try to build a major site for a big company with a custom cms without table..only divs..its practically impossible and it would be opposite of browser compatibility. I know, my cousin is a professions webdesigner who does this stuff and i talked to him and sum of the people he works with and thats what they had to say..Not all tables..no more then 2 nested tables. and divs..but going all divs is pointless when doing big sites. It's not "all divs"- if you use all divs, you've killed the purpose. It's about using semantic markup: structure first, presentation second. And it is very possible, a proven fact (http://www.cssvault.com/) even. the tree 12-17-2004, 08:29 AM Actualy for big buisness, using css instead of tables is even more important. As we all know, bandwidth just aint free. webdeveloper.com
