My ip was changed so I had to reset my dns (I have a long last (staic for usually 3 to 4 months at a time) ip, so I had to reset my dns manually. I also did not know at the time but all of my router config got messed up becuase my local ip moved from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.101 and I had to change my server, firewall, and dmz settings for this. It was the brits who actually said: "This land is no longer yours, it belongs to these guys over here, who were burned in some oven's by the ruler you sympathized with's nation". Or something like that. Now if you said it was Israel that invaded lebanon, I would give you that one because they did do that, but that was because the PLO was up there (lead by arafat) and they ran up there after launching attacks on Israel.

Woot. Having your own pictures on your desktop (http://projep.no-ip.com:81/test/images/forum/desktop.PNG) may be a little bigoted, but I messed with it quite a bit to get it the way I wanted in PhotoSuite (I gots none of dem phancay Photoshops) and it looks pretty nifty- and is still more simplistic than Dan's, who doesn't have the common courtesy to close all message windows and is apparently colour blind. First off let me tell everyone what style xp is. Style xp is a program that allows you to mod your startup pic, among other things and will basically let you get a "skin" for windows. The downside is a process has to be running for it to work. The process uses like no resouces, but it is a "trial" if you do not want to try and download a pro vers. That means that after 30 days it is going to bug you to upgrade and shut down and do other annoying crap. I stopped using it because it got on my nerves and it was not that cool. I just use the no-frills default blue.

Oh, and has anyone else noticed that if you /right-click on desktop, arrange icons by,(uncheck)"show desktop items" that Windows' desktop stretching turns really, really shyte?

The wallpaper is a screen shot from the intro to Black & White 2, if you're wondering why it looks kinda dithery, that's because it's saved as a jpg on 60% compression so I could get it under the 100KB limit...

Actually it doesnt look too bad, but when compared to the original you can see that some areas have lost detail and become a bit blurry, meh.

It's anti virus, and it's called Panda Antivirus, or at least that's what it used to be called, now apparently it's, "Panda Platinum 2005 Internet Security".

The anti-virus is pretty damn good, although the firewall is a nightmare because it's overly restrictive, so I leave that part of it disabled.

I can't remember the last time I got ad-ware or spy-ware either, so either this Panda does it's job or I'm just good at not getting crap. It is somewhat re-assuring to run a complete full system scan every once in a while and find out that my computer is totally clean though. ;)

First of all, why such words?
now ie isnt that bad... it all depends on how you use it (websites you visit, programs you download, plugins you install, how you protect it, setting you use, etc).
Now i like firefox too (http://www.saulss.devisland.net/screenshots/ffshort.jpg)(and a wide variety of programs like gimp, filezilla and more), it follows the standards, also has other interesting features included.
Still, i like ie, like you might like ff. (i use ie mostly because it seems to respond faster and better for the things i run on it :D )
At the end ALL browsers have flaws, All of em are made by ppl (with flaws too :p), it's just a matter of time before their flaws are spoted.

MstrBob
10-28-2005, 09:39 PM
Yes, however, some browsers have more flaws, with fewer fixes farer between, don't support all the modern technologies, and go several years without any serious development between versions.

Thankfully, we have Firefox, Mozilla Suite, Safari, Opera, Konqueror, ect.

Still, i like ie, like you might like ff. (i use ie mostly because it seems to respond faster and better for the things i run on it :D )

I agree, IE is much faster because of how tightly integrated it is with the whole windows explorer thing etc. Why can't firefox do the same thing? Or do they want it to use a move universal background or something? Or is using windows explorer more insecure, which I highly doubt....?

Ben Rogers
10-29-2005, 05:25 PM
Truthfully, I found Firefox on Linux to be very tightly integrated, but I also find windows browsers to all be at about the same level of speed. I don't understand that argument.

LiLcRaZyFuZzY
10-29-2005, 05:26 PM
firefox works swiftly for me (on windows)

plus IE takes so much time until it finds out that the page doesnt exist, and output a 404.. :p

MstrBob
10-29-2005, 06:12 PM
Generally, on Windows, when you use an application more often, it'll boot faster. It prefetches data so that your favourite apps are quicker to open. For me, it takes longer to boot Internet Explorer, although admittedly, not by much. Although Firefox does render pages faster than Explorer.

Oddly enough, Opera outdoes all three!

Suse 10 (http://www.opensuse.org/Download)

NogDog

I installed SuSE Linux 10.0 on a HP Pavillion notebook that's a few years old now (Pentium III @ 500MHz with 256MB RAM). It was relatively painless, though I had to poke around the web a bit to figure out how to disable the "tap to click" feature on the mousepad, which I don't like to use and was way too sensitive. The 256MB RAM is the minimum amount needed, with at least 512MB being recommended.

Why do you have three Firefox windows open...? You've not heard of tabs...?
lol ! I do, but I had like 10 tabs on them each, so I guess I wanted some space...

LCF, Dave already helped me out, but thanks. I need a new WinVS...anyone know of any good ones? Right now I'm using "MOMO Full" from Deviant, and it's good, but I just want a breath of fresh air, y'know? Haven't been able to find another I liked (yes, I've tried Luna Elements, used it before MOMO).

that background image is....weird

hehe I'm glad you like it. If you've never seen Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then you won't understand. It's the most awesome scene from the whole movie.

And as I said, I did some cleaning... I used to have much more than that...
Imagine that one screen was TOTALLY full with icons, and the other one, 3 quarters full...
Like, 150, at least...
I'm a messy person. :D

so you have to add it to your sig:

Yes, it's me. The girl with the iframes, the colored scrollbars, the javascript, the cookies and the messy desktop... If you happen to see me, beware, I'm evil.
<-- I'm a lot wiser, now, don't worry. But the evil Ness still lingers deep inside...

I think it should go like this :

Yes, it's me. The girl with the iframes, the colored scrollbars, the javascript, the cookies and the extremely messy desktop... If you happen to see me, beware, I'm evil.
<-- I'm a lot wiser, now, don't worry. But the evil Ness still lingers deep inside...

Ah yes, that was tragic. I remember now. I can't believe you haven't seen it yet!

Oh, and BTW, I've added two icons to my desktop...

Geeze, it keeps growing...

My old desktop (we've gotten rid of it now, or at least...we put it in storage...hopefully I'll get my parents to buy a new one...not a Dell) had a lot of icons on it. Not as many as you, but still, it was a lot. But the biggest thing was the start menu. It had so much crap in it, we had to switch to a bigger screen resolution to see all the columns of stuff. That was bad.

My desktop, as we speak is entirely bare. I have 13 (eek.) items in quicklaunch bar, which is at the top of my screen, and that's good enough. If I open the start bar more than twice a week for something, then I'll just throw it onto my quicklaunch. Once a week and I'll pin it to my start menu.

...I need a new desktop, too. If it matches with black and white, it's good. ;)

No, it's not me, Ulti !!! I don't have cat eyes :)
This is Lyen, princess of Eaven, a character from my novel.
But I did draw it. (I'm improving, I guess...)

Ben Rogers, I designed this wallpaper especially for my messy desktop, so you can actually see the girl. The left part was left blank for all my icons :D
