Alright, my sister's CDRW/DVD drive wasn't working, she was having some issues reading DVD's. So, I went to install the latest driver. I went to samsung.com, and installed their driver for it. It restarts the computer, and I get a white screen, something along the lines of:

" Dell Inc
www.dell.com

The Modular Bay Device cannot be recognized. Please follow the following steps in order:

1)Make sure the device is firmly attached
2)Press Esc. to power down
3)Press the power key to try again"

I can't get to safe mode, setup. I can't ****ing do anything. I can't boot from the Windows OS disk, since THE CD DRIVE WON'T WORK and there's no floppy drive (nor floppy disk). And Dells support website doesn't even mention this issue. So, before I waste a day with brain surgeons in India, does anybody have any ideas on this?

Calling to india is fun!

My moms hard drive died, completely. I mean she said she heard something click and pop sort of... IT WAS FRIED. I call dell say I need a new hard drive, they are telling me to clear CMOS, like that has jack sh... to do with a damn fried hard drive. I just pretended I was doing what the guy was telling me to and then he gave me instructions on how to send the hd back and that he was sending a new one.

you say you can't get into bios? delete at startup? Humm. But removing the cdrw probably would not solve this. What the hell is a modular bay device... sorry about this stream of thoughts.

CLEAR CMOS!

hummm... Where do you get this screen, I mean when you normally post at startup it is going to say the normal crap like detecting har ddrive bla bla this much space, ram test, whatever, this is before that?

Well, Modular Bay Device apparently is Dell lingo for removable media devices (CD, DVD, ect.) I took the CDRW/DVD drive out and it now starts up. But I couldn't get it to work. So, I called India. Unfortunately, I got disconnected in the middle of the call. Called again, got a more american sounding voice. Has me update BIOS, but still no dice. I ask if perhaps removing the old driver would work. He mumbles something, and then tells me that they're going to replace the CDRW/DVD drive for the laptop (It's still under warranty and has tech support). Hey, I'm not complaining about that, Dell's footing the bill. But add this to my list of reasons why I'm going to build my own system.
