Can someone help to find the resources to develop a shopping cart for my web site. I would like to know what are the differant ways to develop shopping cart. what are the languages i should know to start developing? Any resources that i can use on the net, like shopping cart forums or groups etc.
Thanks

Any server side language will do. I reccomend asp.net. A good book (it actually has a shoping cart example in it) is Instant asp.net applications. By Greg Bukzek. You can also do your shopping cart with PHP, Perl, JSP, and ASP classic.

also there are hundreds of free script sites out there for every language. Most of the have a site search so you should just hunt around on those for relevant examples

I personally would use PHP for this, as that is what I know. Also, you will want to have firm knowledge of HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript.

Thank you for your help. Right now i don't know anything about PHP. for a guy like me who knows Java, JSP, java script, HTML, how long it will take to write a simple shopping cart? or is it advaisable to buy already existing ones? I prefer to learn the technology though.
Thanks for the comments.

Why can't you just use jsp to do it. Its a serverside?

Why not use an off the shelf package and get to know PHP along the way.
Have you had a look at OSCommerce, it's in PHP, but don't let that put you off. In version 2.2 the whole thing can be setup, even the administrator end without going near the code.
The forums can then answer you php questions.
