Okay dudes, I found this really really sweet program on http://www.download.com
It is so unbelievable I can barely talk. It is gorgeous. It is beautiful. I want to cry.
The program is called Webdrive, and it was sent down from God because he pitied us so. You can download it here: http://www.download.com/WebDrive/3000-2160_4-10353638.html?tag=tid_s
Basically, once configured, a new drive will appear in My Computer. Why you ask? What is it? It is drive W: , and it is directly conected to your hosting file manager. Hell Yes. Thats right. When you double click that drive you see the contents of your file manager windows fashion. You can delete and replace files on a whim without ever getting on a browser. Only thing I can say: Sweet Ass. Tally ho-biatch, Tally ho.
When you download it and run it you will be as dumbfounded as I was when I first used it. Trust me. Tell me what you guys think of it!
EDIT: I just finished transfering a bunch of files. It was orgasmic. :D I am not kidding.

Who says you can't get something for nothing? Fresh Download 7.2 is a handy freeware app that lets you schedule downloads, resume broken downloads, manage passwords, and download multiple files simultaneously.

Well I mean what does it do? Why would I need my server file to be a separate drive? If I want to play with files I just go into
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\
This is for a local server correct?

No, this is for hosting. It is not for a local server. That is the sweet part. It works just as if it was on your harddrive... but it is on a server a thousand miles away (In my case). Now, I basically just copy adnd past stuff directly from my mydoc website folder to the webdrive.

Well if you have ftp I can just copy files from intetpub into the shortcut to my ftp... you can send ftp through windows explorer if you use the top address bar. For example type in ftp://you@yourhosting.com and you will be in your ftp folder.
But the fact that you can edit and save and the file will be on the destination server is pretty cool. If I were not running a server locally I would be all over that aspect of it.

Oooh, like an always-connected FTP client? It's a novel idea, but I've been quite happy using CuteFTP, so I do not plan to switch. Plus, it would be a waste, since I just spent $40 on it :D

Isn't this a beautiful example of friendship and brotherhood? We have a 3 posts all in a row, one who has a palestinian flag pic, one who has an israeli flag pic, and one who has an anti-bush pic. Pretty cool. I think we've (well.... after the huge political debates) kept cool and worked together as a community even though we have differences. :D

What do you use to run your server? Regular Windows, a linux distribution, what?

I would give this app a whirl, but I'm in the same boat as Peo; IIS on one of my own systems. :)

SmartFTP does me just fine. An FTP client is an FTP clinet is an FTP client. Except SmartFTP is better.

All the servers I use are all installed on my own machine so I don't even need to move files to any directory anywhere. I just hit Ctrl + "S" and it's live and online. Once I'm done testing and building I just drag and drop a folder containing all my work onto the target machine using an ftp client and go to bed.
No doubt there's plenty of people (such as yourself) that will find this useful, it's just not for me.

Would it work with MySQL? What I plan on doing is to have a local server so that when we change something in the MySQL database the website would be updated as well, that way I won't have any corruption when the internet disconnects the database (not to mention the slowness of waiting for bandwith). having said that I don't think it would work with MySQL.

Why not just have the script update both databases at the same time at input time?

Don't know enough MySQL to answer that one. Thanks for the suggestion.

Been trying this Webdrive for a while now, and I find it is quite good.
The one thing I like most about it is you can open the files directly from Webdrive and edit and save from there too.
The one thing I don't like I suppose is every one else who sees it says "You have to do that in your FTP software", and then I have to explain that it is FTP software. :D
