In the Graphics forum (and these are usually cross-posted in the General forum, but I see them more often in the Graphics forum), it is not uncommon for people to post (http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55212) job opportunities (http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55195). I don't feel that these freelance opportunities shouldn't be posted, although it may not be the appropriate forum for them, but is it allowed? Some say the Terms of Service do not allow this, but this place provides good communications grounds and as a result there is commerce. Does this break any rules?

Also, what frustrates me about the majority of these freelance job posts is that they offer no return on investment; what kind of a web developer does work for free? It's absurd! Why do people even think that they will get anyone to work for them without getting paid for it? I feel that it's posts like these that are pointless and unnecessary, but of course my opinion on this matter could be contradictory to what is popular. In that case, let me know if I'm out of line.

Looking forward to hearing responses,

Personally I don't like the idea of people asking for other people to do work for them for free. I believe in the AUP it says something about soliciting. Not sure though.

i believe that the best thing to do is to refer them to http://dice.com - JupiterMedia has a contract with them.

It's not a full-time job, though. They're offering one-time, freelance jobs. Isn't Dice an employment listing site, rather than something like freelancers.org, where one-time jobs are listed? Something like "Need a CGI script, $200 budget." I don't think that's so bad to have here. JupiterMedia isn't losing any money by that, are they?

The Terms of Service mention advertising and soliciting, but it's grouped with pyramid schemes, so I would think it's referring specifically to illegal scams, rather than one-time job opportunities. I don't think this would affect JupiterMedia negatively.

That was just my interpretation of soliciting.

Guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we can't allow job postings or any such requests on ~any~ of our forums. Additionally, if any of you get webdev clients from this site, I don't even want to know about it, let alone read about it on here. It's not something we can allow to happen via this forum.

We already have a contract with a job site, and must refer folks who wish to post such offerings to Dice.com.

Thanks for understanding.
Scott

That sums it up quite well if I may say so.

I'm honestly a bit disappointed, but you win some and you lose some... I'm glad this has been cleared up, anyway.
