As some of you know, I've been having a bit of trouble getting a page to work right in IE. As far as I know, my page is 100% standards-compliant and I nor anyone who tried to help can find any reason for this. I have a solution, but I'm afraid if I do it I become just like every other fascist webmaster. Let me explain:
I get vexed and livid everytime I see a page telling me how I should configure MY system and what programs should I should use on MY computer! I get even more furious when a page DENIES me the right to view a page when I choose not to follow their strict guidelines (which shouldn't be there in the first place).
And now my solution: A workaround for my faulty site (or is it MS's faulty browser?) is to place a javascript that automatically forwards an IE user to a page explaining that IE doesn't work with my page for some reason and they should use a different browser, then provide links to Opera, Mozilla, etc.
But... wouldn't that be extremely hypocritical of me? I know it's not like I'm trying to force users into one mold (a deadly mistake), but nonetheless I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do (morally and practically). Really, I want my page to work with all browsers, but I can think of no way to make it compatible with Idiot Exploiter (http://toastytech.com/evil). I'm having a dilemma here; please give feedback. Thanks in advance.
NOTE: Thanks to the almighty Fang's boundless intellect my page works now, but I'm still curious about the morality of doing such a thing.
