To me this suggests that google are launching one last "invite attack" before going pubic. jeff_archer7 02-04-2005, 07:02 PM May I please have one??? jeff_archer7@hotmail.com Thankyou in advance Jona 02-04-2005, 07:46 PM Jeff, have you gotten one yet? If not, let me know. I'm trying to get rid of them also. :D age13kid 02-04-2005, 07:51 PM ya i e-mailed him one he should get it soon when he checks his email mrfurry 02-04-2005, 08:24 PM Can i have one please? pfernandes@walla.com Jona 02-04-2005, 08:27 PM Originally posted by mrfurry Can i have one please? pfernandes@walla.com Sent. smercer 02-04-2005, 08:39 PM please don't call me ignorant, but I was wondering, what is Gmail? I have heard everyone is talking about it, but I don't know what it is. and why you need an invitation thanks Jona 02-04-2005, 08:41 PM Google started offering free email addresses with 1GB (one gigabyte) of space to store emails. The service is still beta, and the only way to get an account is to be invited by someone who already has it. smercer 02-04-2005, 09:00 PM Originally posted by Jona Google started offering free email addresses with 1GB (one gigabyte) of space to store emails. MstrBob 02-04-2005, 09:04 PM Originally posted by smercer thanks for that, though it wont stay 1gb when they bring it out. Says who? Google won't take that away, they won't diminish any features. They've pushed the 1 GB of space as the main selling point of their new service. I can say, I'm quite happy with it, though. And I've got to unload some invites, so if anyone wants it, lemme know. smercer 02-04-2005, 09:15 PM Originally posted by MstrBob Says who? MstrBob 02-04-2005, 09:26 PM Google denies both that they'll charge existing members and that features will decrease. Google certainly has the capital to invest in, though. At any rate I grabbed mine up now and I'm quite happy. If you want, I can send an invite your way and you can check it out, you just need to provide a name and your current email address. :D smercer 02-04-2005, 09:40 PM Originally posted by MstrBob Google denies both that they'll charge existing members and that features will decrease. Neczy 02-07-2005, 11:49 AM Gmail is google's take on email. You get 1 gig of storage, with filters, spam blocking tools, and the whole concept is that you don't need to delete your messages, instead you archive them, and then when you want to find something you use a search powered by the google search engine to find what you are looking for. I've been using it for nearly 8 months and its the best ever ;). I also have 50 invites now... Ultimater 02-07-2005, 02:28 PM Can I have one? Take a gander at my sig ;) Ultimater 02-07-2005, 08:34 PM Ok, I now got GMail. Thank You, Jona. So GMail stands for Google Mail. There's nothing absolutely special about it,as far as I can see, But I'll give it a try. It surely is easier to log-in to than my aol account *smiles* . Jick 02-07-2005, 08:41 PM Yeah, there is nothing special about it... No, 1 gig of room and free spam filter and POP features isn't nothing special. Yahoo! charges for that stuff; as do most others. jeff_archer7 02-08-2005, 12:23 AM How do you change font size and other stuff in GMAIL..... or can't you am i dumb what is the answer??? no rude replys thanx, I may have to retort... lmao Jona 02-08-2005, 01:02 AM Originally posted by jeff_archer7 How do you change font size and other stuff in GMAIL..... or can't you am i dumb what is the answer??? no rude replys thanx, I may have to retort... lmao Are you using a real browser (http://www.getfirefox.com/)? If so, just hit Ctrl++ and the font size will increase. It sounds to me like he means "how do you format text in a Gmail message". As in, making it different colors and stuff so the receiver can see it that way. If it's what I think then I'm not sure of the answer. I think you can put html into your messages like <strong>, <em>, etc. Sorry if I'm wrong. Didn't understand the question all that well. Jick 02-08-2005, 03:12 AM Originally posted by Ultimater And in addition a SPELL √ *awestruck*Oh, yeah. That too. :) Ultimater 02-08-2005, 02:25 PM Originally posted by Jick Oh, yeah. (says sarcastically) Ultimater 02-08-2005, 02:31 PM (votes this thread 5 stars) ллллл age13kid 02-08-2005, 02:48 PM once again i hav to ask... does anyone want a gmail invite? its annoying me so badly looking at 49 of them. PM me if you want one... ps i noticed you dont hav to includ the first and last name anymore all you need is the email address gorky 02-08-2005, 03:01 PM HOLY C***! I HAVE 100 INVITES! I could theorhetically send myself all one hundred then I would have 102 accounts, 102GB! If they give out another fifty... 5202 accounts! MWAHAHAHA! Seriously though, Gmail is great. I recently took a survey from Yahoo about ways to improve their own mail services, and ended up recommending everything that Google has offered. Their limitation on file-type uploads is rather smart, as they take the 'stop any virus from being transferred' approach by disallowing .exes instead of the shaky 'scan everthing with outdated protection software' one. But most of all the searchable emails for quick finds, the 'Gmail Notifier' to tell me when I get new mail, and the 'Google Alerts' to automatically search news articles for updates for me and keep me posted via email of current events. IT'S AWESOME SO IF YOU WANT IT, PM ME FOR ONE OF MY ONE HUNDRED INVITES! -Gorky hooloovoo24 02-08-2005, 03:07 PM Seriously, why don't they just make it public? I mean, if they are giving out so many of them anyway, would it be such a stretch to just say "Ok everyone can have one?" Jona 02-08-2005, 03:14 PM Originally posted by hooloovoo24 Seriously, why don't they just make it public? I mean, if they are giving out so many of them anyway, would it be such a stretch to just say "Ok everyone can have one?" I'm thinking they have a marketing idea up their sleeve with this. By giving lots of GMail invitations to those who already have it, more people are likely to use it, but not everyone. That means they will have more testing at a higher rate due to more traffic, and they can fix any bugs that may be found in a shorter amount of time. I would say they are getting close to a launch, but first they want to get just enough people excited about it. Once it gets popular enough, they'll probably release it - or do something else. Anyway, I'm sure it's just an innovative marketing strategy that they've developed (probably with the help of some pigeons (http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html) or something - you never know!) hooloovoo24 02-08-2005, 03:17 PM Originally posted by Jona (probably with the help of some pigeons (http://www.google.com/technology/pigeonrank.html) or something - you never know!) My friend's dad works there, and all he can talk about is the atmosphere. -Gorky Ultimater 02-08-2005, 09:22 PM I checked my EMail that I gave to these Web Forums, and HOLY COW! I had over 50 EMails from this Website each time someone posted in any thread that I also posted :( I guess I can give my new GMail EMail address to this Site and filter spam :D YAY!
