Check out OS Commerce (http://www.oscommerce.com/). I just heard about this one today from an associate of mine. It is inexpensive, highly customizable and easy to use. There are, of course, other shopping cart programs out there as well as hosting companies offering shopping cart integration with their hosting. So you have a few options to choose from.

Oscommerce is used my many people and you can usually get it free I think through your host (or maybe they charge you - not sure)

But I've heard that it is a little difficult to configure and you need to know a reasonable amount of PHP. Is this right?

Except for the fact that orieshop is pretty expensive as compared to the free oscommerce.

hello
i have gone through the oscommerce site, they don't provide any information about the pricing. so it may be free. but always remember a fact that you are going to use a software on which all your business depends. if someone is giving something free then definitely you are not going to get any support which is also known as after sale services. No body does business with a motive to make loss. we all know quality is directly proportional to price so take orieshop and have a quality product and do believe in us. visit http://www.orieshop.com

osCommerce is free - and can be downloaded and used by anyone.

It can be difficult to setup and modify if you aren't prepared to get your hands dirty with some code.

Once you have it sorted, it is an excellent piece of software with a large and loyal bunch of users.

Get it here (http://oscommerce.com)

The forums are here (http://forums.oscommerce.com)

lol @ orieshop, you've made 3 posts total in this one thread to advertise your shopping cart

If I were to go orieshop I would probably go at a minimum the lite version and have you set it up for a cost of 540 pounds. Now in my money (australian) that would set me back $1320!! which is way, way too expensive when I can spend the time to learn a little PHP, read some forums and setup oscommerce for free. Many people use it very succesfully to setup many online stores.

Plus oscommerce have many forums setup so that I can just post a question in there and get many replies in a matter of minutes.

ps I have nothing to do with any sort of shopping cart program - just think that if you're just starting out and don't have a lot of money to throw around then a shopping cart that is very expensive seems a waste of money.

A little scarry looking for text only browsers. You can't order anything as the items and descriptions are rendered as images. You may miss out on some sales using Romancart.

Hi,
In reply to the last post regarding text only browsers.
RomanCart works on any browser on any platform, including text only browsers.

What you are referring to is actually the demo shop which was using an imagemap for 'add to basket' links instead of html. This has long since been replaced with an html version.

Many Thanks
Simon

OSCommerce is the best way to go for shopping cart. However there are also good shopping cart software available like zencart. :)
