server side scripting language

I ' m looking around for the best and easiest to learn server side scripting language.
ASP and PHP for instance... what's the best? Which are the differences? Is there any other is better?
Sorry if it is much complicated but i need to start somewhere.

In fact what i know about sripting languages is nothing... just a bit of action script.
For what i understood ASP.net is easier but won't it died. Someone told me so.

Take your pick. ASP/ASP.Net is limited to running under IIS and some flavor of Windows (ie, Windows Server 2003, or WinXP Pro) whereas PHP can run on Unix. If you decide to go the ASP route look into ASP.Net instead of native ASP though.

If your a Windows user without any programming experience, go with ASP.NET
