I am going to be entering this site into a web design contest tomorrow and i was wondering if anyone has any quick tips that i can do to make this look better. I think its pretty good because its only against high school kids, but then again im not to creative and i have no idea how good the other people are. The site is supposed to be promoteing a school store. I realize the pictures are bad quality, but i am putting new ones on as soon as my friend optimizes them.

Change the lightning bolts to something more appropriate
Put a shadow/border around the picture
I'd use the same hover affect for the links at the bottom as is at the top
In the background of the body, maybe have a big, non-repeating faded image of that shield thingumy, just to add a bit of grandeur to the site.
I don't know if your writing the copy, but on the used items page it is horrific, you're just insulting the reader.

The design itself is good, well done and good luck in the competietion.

The only thing that seems insulting is that i say if they dont have enough money, but what do u mean by writing the copy??

I looked under the hood and was amazed. Why in God's name are you using tables? I hope the contest does not judge based on accessibility for your sake!

The copy the wirtten bits, everything that isn't the graphic and the design, this is a term mostly used in journalism but you're likely to see it around the web quite often. For future reference the following would make a good start:If you're not fussy about having the latest editions or you're working on a limited budget, the South Glenbook store has a wide range of used books; some of which are still in great condition.
You can request any of our used books at any time, just try to be specific, after all, we have a huge range!
