I'll believe it when I see it. Sometimes they are set up so that one is disadvantaged then the other and it's all for business publicity.

I never liked Microsoft any way, they are always too busy figuring out how much bloatware they can put into their next program edition where more time and effort should be spent on the help documentation.

If you have ever wondered why they have bloatware in their software, its because consumers have to spend more money on upgrading their hardware, and Microsoft gets commission from Intel etc, and systems runing on latest Linux OS could be run on a 486 where Win XP is unthinkable.

The one thing that I don't like about Linux is the user interface being not user friendly.

I also think that Linux is less likely to be hacked, I also hear there is a commpetion for hackers to try to hack a Linux system. Prize is $10,000

People hack their way into Linux boxes all the time.

If the windows box is setup properly and the admin keeps up with the updates the windows box is going to be just as secure as anything else.

If the windows box is setup properly... that's a big if, since I wouldn't consider the way MS ships Windows "properly configured." ;)

And about keeping up with the updates: how many thousands of users have to report a problem before Microsoft releases an update, if you know what I mean? In general, I think the Linux kernel is much more secure, especially with the new security tools that are being rolled out.

If you read the article it said that microsoft is quicker with fixing it's problems then linux. This is because of a larger user base most likely, but none the less. The only thing linux has to offer is that you must be logged in as root if you want to play with a lot of the setting and install things, but there again, if your windows server does not have it's permissions all botched a hacker will have the same problems he would trying to get into a linux server if he were somehow able to get control over Iusr or aspnet. I have my windows updates scheduled on my server to run every sunday at 3am.

It's also probably related to the fact that there are more holes to fix. And technically, the automatic updates that come in through many popular Linux distros are the responsibility of the distributor, not the Linux community. If you're tech savvy and crave up-to-date software, you can download nightly builds of the latest bleeding edge kernel version... let's see MS do that!

Of course, I'm not here to argue about whether Windows or Linux is better... just pointing a few things out ;). I'm sure there are people who can secure a Windows box wonderfully, just as there are some idiots who can mess up a Linux box's security. It really is all relative.

OK, so maybe I am arguing :p. But arguing is fun... someone has to stick up for Linux!
